Outer Limits 4x4 Board

Ive just done a turbo conversion on my 1HZ 80 series and wanted to put a tacho on it, ive been told i need a twin pulse tacho and connects to the wires on the bottom of the injector pump. but every shop i go to gives me a blank look.

Do i need a twin pulse tacho and Where can i get one?

im sorry for the silly question... but whats wrong with the original tacho?

Ur 80 isnt a ricer?

not all 80's have a tacho as mine does not have one either

Not all 80 gx's had tachos some gx's come with gxl dash options

My DX 80 has a tacho running off the back of hte alternator.
One wire goes into the alt and connects to one of the windings.
This is then just run to the tacho mounted on the A pillar.

Pretty simple really and no extra mods to the fuel pump (Other than the ones for the fuel compensator and upped fuel for the 16 psi )

I had one installed - very handy! My 80 didn't have a factory tacho and you need a new pump housing to have one! big $$$!

Tiny tach was under $200 and works a treat - piss easy to install!

there is three wire's in the back of the alternator which colour wire does the the tacho wire connect to cobba

I have also just brought a tacho for my 2H.The brand is V.D.O,you can get them in either 4000 max revs or 8000 max revs.They are 2'' diameter in size.I paid $140 for mine.Bit of a fiddle to fit though.You get it wired up.Get your self a hand tacho that can take a reading from the centre of the crank pulley. Then there is three tiny switches on the back of the gauge that can be set if needed to get near the reading taken from the crank pulley.Finally there is a fine calibration screw to get the revs spot on.But at least with V.D.O you getting a decent quality gauge.

I recently fitted a Isspro tach to my standard 80 1hz.

I purchased it from the US, it was expensive, but arrived within 3 days.

Fairly easy to fit, glued 2 tiny magnets to the harmonic balancer and then coated them in epoxy. Mounted the sensor to a small piece of thread used to secure the vacume pump.

Mounted the gauge to the pillar, works fantastic, really stable and checked it with a hand held laser tacho, it's spot on for accuracy.

I previosly had an autometer diesel tacho which used a sensor mounted to the alternator, it was ok but at times was unstable, jumping around a bit especially just after starting. It really anoyed me so thats why i changed to the Isspro one.

My tacho has a cable that goes into the rear cover of the alt and screws direct to the alt winding.

I'm away from home at the moment, when I get home I'll get gauge model numbers and such and post them up.
