Was driving past a car yard today when I saw a 1989 hj61 in the back. I figured I stop and check it out, in the pouring rain lol. Holy Schamoly they have the sticker at 10,000. The car has done over 300k and this year is two decades old. Are car yards out of their mind? I had to ask some questions so I went inside and said I was interested in the 60 series and if it had any service history. The salesman laughed and said the car is getting on 20 years old. I said yeah but it is priced at ten thousand. LOL at anyrate he handed me the keys and I had a look. Well it has been detailsed and the bottom painted so it is hard to see in the pouring rain any obvious problems there was a little bit of rust at the rear panel on the bottom. The battery was dead so it couldn't be started. Of course the dealer would put a new one in if I wanted to deal today hahaha. Am I out of my head or is 10000 just wayyyyyyy toooo much? does one even have a chance at haggling with a dealer like this? I can't see this cruiser being more than 5 or 6 thousand today can you?

I sold an 88 HJ61 12H-T for 8K a couple of months ago. Look on carsales, there were a few around that money. If they are in good nick they are still fetching good money. I personally would not buy one for that money but there seem to be plenty out there who will. Mine had close to 500,000km on the clock but had a recon motor/turbo/injection pump.

In hindsight, I would have paid $10,000 for a 61 in great nick. I paid $6K for mine plus a turbo, so I'm up to that $10k mark already.

These are solid trucks and when cared for will continue to keep on rollin'...

I paid 11K for my 87 HJ61 two years ago from a yard. 1 owner with 225ks - NO rust.

Like any old truck - consider repairs / improvements:

I've added 16in sunnys and 285/75 MT tyres - $1500, full suspension - $2200, dump pipe, exhaust and tune - $1300, snorkel - $400, LPG fumigation $1000, tint - $250, drawers - $250, cargo barrier - $100 etc. It all adds up, but I recon I've got plenty of life left in this rugged old jalopy! And it gets along just nicely....

There are plenty of bombs around (especially FJs). You get what you pay for - even for older trucks!
