hey fellas... was looking through the electronic pdf format for the shop manual covering the engine and i'm just curious..... do i have to completely take out the intake manifold in order to remove the block and install the new block? do i have to take everything out of the engine bay or what? and more speficially.. what exactly can i leave in there? i plan on marking every hose/wire with tape so that when i install the new block, i'll be able to easily identify a hose/wire and connect it promptly... any advice/suggestions???

It would probably be easier to hoist the whole engine out (or drop it out underneath?) and work on it out of the vehicle. I imagine it would be a PITA to try and do it in the vehicle, given that the engine mounts bolt to the block etc.

You should be able to remove the entire head with the exhaust and inlet manifolds still attached- unless you've got your extractors on there already???

stock extractors are still on but will be replacing them after i drop the rebuilt block back in.... i jus want to know whats easier to do... so i should go ahead and take the head off, disconnect intake/exhaust, remove the block..... replace engine mounts, and move from there? or like you said can i leave the exhaust/intake manifold on the head...... if so where do i put the head so i can remove the engine? dont think i can drop it out from underneath...... so it looks to me like i'm gonna have to take everything out of the engine bay and take off the hood?

Pull the whole thing out! You'll save yourself a lot of time and grief. You can leave the inlet manifold on, but disconnect the exhaust and tie it out of the way.
