Piece of piss to replace the rear output shaft seal. Drain the oil, drop the tailshaft, take off the big nut (32mm?), take the flange off(careful not to lose any washers) and pull the old seal out. Check the sealing surface for wear while its out, if all is good put a new one in and put it back together. Do the nut up tight and don't forget to peen the nut into the groove again to stop it coming loose.
As for your jumping out of high range, you might find the linkage just needs to be adjusted. Undo the 12mm nut that holds the linkage to the transfer high/low lever on the transfer and take the linkage out of the hole. Make sure your shifter in the cab is in the H4 position, then push the transfer lever all the way to the drivers side (this should be High Range). You'll probably find the linkage pin doesnt line up perfectly with the shift lever and will need to be adjusted. It needs to be a perfect fit so the linkage pin just slots straight into the hole. If its even just a little bit out of adjustment it can cause the transfer to jump between high range and neutral and sometimes cause an awful grinding sound when the cogs are in between the 2.
Move the transfer lever from the drivers side to the passenger side, you should feel 3 definate clicks as it goes from high to neutral to low. Bring it back to the drivers side and when you feel it click into high then you need to adjust the linkage to suit.
Undo the lock nut on the linkage shaft (can be very tight, might have to pull the complete linkage shaft off and do it in a vice). and turn the rod in or out depending which way it needs to go. Lock up the nut and put it back together.
