What do you guys think of climax or superior shackles? Are they worth the $500 dollars a pair and is it worth putting them on a hilux with a sagged old man emu 2" lift. or am i better off just putting extended shackles on there? any opinion appreciated.

If was going to do either, I would go extended shackles as they look more standard and less likely to draw attention to themselves, but I guess it depends on what your needs are. Someone was selling a pair of Superior Shackles in the for sale section not so long ago, it might be worth checking out.

I would go extended shackles. Each is equally illegal here in Qld but the extended shackles will give you better control than the hinged style. Depends if you want lift, flex, or control and predictability. Superiors really require you to fit the whole package of shocks incl mounts, springs, wrap bar, limiting strap. Or just fit the extended shackles and be done with it :D

Big Bird,

Have a little search - there have been heaps of discussions about these shackles in the past 12 months.

I'm pretty sure you will be able to find what you need in there.

Cheers

i was running superiors on the rear, and as bee bee said to make them work well u need the longer springs, shock mounts, trac bar limiting strap, and yes they do attrack more attention from transport dept. so i would say just go extended, not that i wasnt happy with my setup.

p.s, they were my shackles in the for sale and they are sold.

I know a lot has been said about these drop style shackles having a lack of control and unloading unwantedly BUT....

What are you guys thoughts of using them in a comp and having them unpinned for a RTI ramp so they can give you that little extra travel and then running them pinned for the rest of the comp?

Am I right in assuming that when pinned they will behave like a normal shackle except be able to twist with the spring as it flexs (just not extend as they do when unpinned)?
Paul.

Expensive method of gaining a couple of extra inches. The total cost of my coil 4-link rear suspension would be less than the RRP on a pair of superiors......And it will be engineer approved. :D

Are they worth just putting in one end? Say the drop shackles in the front for flex, and the extended in the rear for an equivalent lift. Or vice versa? Would it work? Of course, new shocks all round and a limiting strap would probably still be necessary.

Putting them in the front will require a LONG slip joint on your front driveshaft and I don't think standard toyota steering would hold up to it long if it's going in a hilux......Don't know about others.

in my opinion if u were only goin to put them in one end i would go for the rear. i think that the would put way to much stress on steering components and uni joints in the front.

I have them in the rear with extended in the front works realy well.
dont listen to the people who tell you they are unpredictable or unload violently, thats Bull S#!t.
