ive just noticed that my pajero is getting a bit of oil coming out of the oil cap, and from the bolts that secure the rocker cover,

is there a pcv valve that i might be able to change to combat this probablem, or would it most likly be something more sinister??

It is definitely a sign of blow-by, but how sinister depends on how much. A certain amount of blow-by is normal, hence the PCV valve etc.

If the PCV valve is blocked, you are more likely to have oil seepage problems, which will be made worse if seals are old and hard. But, if your blow-by is excessive due to worn rings, even perfect seals and PCV won't be able to prevent seepage.

So there's no simple answer. Start with new seals, check/replace the PCV valve and see if the situation improves.
