I don't think there is a factory 5L turbo - you have to fit an aftermarket turbo kit to a 5L motor which you would be lucky to get away with for under $5k, probably smarter to pick up a 1KZT(E) from a prado or hilux, which can be had for around 4k from wreckers/importers; more power and better reliability than a 5L with turbo.

to answer your question, yes it will bolt in but if your project truck is a petrol model the G52 gearbox is a bit borderline, you may well mash it with the 5L or a 1KZ.

Keep in mind that the 1KZ is a drive wire ECU controlled engine it would be far more practical to fit a aftermarket turbo to a 5L as thay have a mechanical injection pump. Simple fit up and easy to adjust to increase max fuel delivery to up the power with a turbo.

good point.

comes down to how much time vs how much $$ you have to spend on it I guess. if you could get a import front cut with the 1KZ you could just swap in all the electronics including the accellerator pedal and sensor. there is a stack more power potential in the 1KZ but the swap would be a bit complicated like you say. best value for money swap into a bundy if you are dead keen on a turbo diesel would be a 3L 2.8 litre with an aftermarket turbo and intercooler, could get away with the whole bag for under $6k (maybe 5 if you knew people and did ALL the work yourself).
