Why not just get the cheap mod done to the holly that allows it to be used offroad at steep angles.

i've got that cheap mod, and it doesnt work. the new idea is whats called a holley truck avenger....i know bad name but it can do 40 deg angles though. and for 700 bucks its much more affordable than injection.

Go the 470 if you do.... Anything else is too big. Well the 600 was on mine and my 4.4 is 5lt with spice..

If you want a horn manifold go the WILLPOWER by Max Wedge Performance.... You can have single plane carb or even a full fuel rail injection set up...

But your paying now I'd reckon 700 smackos +!

I say a 4.4 mani on evilbay for 50 bucks and few weeks ago... aswell!

I'm always on ebay and i never saw it....mmmm.

the will power manifold is awesome but at 1200 bucks its a bit rich. I've got a really nice 4.4 freshly rebuilt with rover heads and rover timing cover with the rover water pump. I thought about injection and i mean all types, from 3.9 with sigma injectors to autronic ECU and kalmaker i couldnt see the point in spending thousands of dollars on EFI. the carby option is ok providing i can keep fuel up to it on steep hills. I love the Torque of the 4.4, my brother has an 87 with a 3.9 and we went out 2 weekends ago, mine went everywhere his went except i used less fuel. i just find its a great combo with my mega low transfer gears and the 4 speed.

i would love to put a 4 barrel manifold on just to get it breathing right.

cheers

Edelbrock manifold and a Quadrajet carby

Might be damn hard to find a manifold 2nd hand though, last time i got a price they were around the 400 mark brand new(few years ago) and a Quaddie can be picked up anywhere just put a kit through it and away you go.

Offenhauser make a nice 4brl manifold also but havent seen one in years, although i did read somewhere a while back that they are still been made in the states.

yeah ive had a look for the 4brl manifold and cant find much anywhere i have the full injection system off of a 3.9 all the loom, the works but after reading into it its a lot of hard work once its fitted trying to get it all set up using different computers and injectors it all sounds too hard

Thats still about 300 too much, go a stock manifold with EA/EB TBI injection with a megasquirt ecu all for under $400.

Yer. This is definitely a better option than a carby.

But anyway I'd have thought disco injection, admittedly needing some adaptor plates, could be done for well under $1000 anyway.

3.9

to do the 3.9 litre injection there are a few underlying costs to be considered. The injection itself maybe 50-100 bucks with the manifold and injectors ecu and wiring. then theres the air mass meter 650-1200 depending on new or replacement. spacer plates to fit the 4.4 as they are a wider V $400 and the fitting and gaskets let alon the tuning... so all up over $2000....why not just fit a 3.9 engine you say, well thats a good point!!! i love the 4.4 mmm bugger. so do i spend the big money and inject the 4.4 or beacuse its only a bush pig why not just make it work with a carby and be done with it. (the mega squirt option is also available but i havent found any info on this option) the alternative is to bin the ecu and wiring from the 3.9 and use after market Autronic or motec but lets be honest thats alot of money. I also rang max wedge today and he has one of those 4 barrel manifolds that can accept the fuel rails later down the track for $650. so maybe thats the option, also these have some technical chatter for effeciency about breathing better.

TBI ???? and a stock manifold your talking about an efi manifold or a carby manifold.

TBI = throttle body injection. Single point injection or sometimes described as an "electric carby". You would probably be able to hook this up to the carby manifold.

I converted the Rover V8 in my stag to EFI using disco bits for a total cost of under $200. Admittedly you have the additional need for adaptor plates. Also I got something back for the holley junk that was on it before.

Dunno, I would go EFI over carby any day and wouldn't even consider stuffing around with a carby installation, although I might consider sticking with a carby I already had. Just my opinion but I feel it might be worth having a fresh look at EFI before you spend any dough.

On a totally different note LPG will do its job on pretty much any angle and it's only 49 cents a litre.

As chimp said, throttle body injection, basically a carby with 2 injectors built in. The ford units are dirt cheap and will just bolt on with an adapter plate, they are low pressure so no need for high presrure pump or return lines and you could even use the ford ecu and wiring, if you look on the megasquirt forum there is a guy who fitted 2 to a 460 BB in a landau coupe, the tbi's are only $40 at pick a part.

Mod the 2 barrell holly like i did and away ya go i get 14L/100K and it starts and runs fine on just about any angle all i did was blocked up the original bowl vent and moved it to the center of the fuel bowl via drilling a 6mm hole in the top of the bowl fitting a small length of tube then putting a hole in the air cleaner base plate and running a short peice of rubber hose back near the ventri this mod works a treat and my old 4.4 loves the holly and gets great economy pushing 33's through 3.54 diffs with a .996 to 1 final drive :D
