replacing a tierod

Hey
Whats the best way to get the tierod end off?
got a new one coming from the warehouse today.
Suzuki sierra btw.

Disconnected from the steer arm or unscrewed?

Yes disconnected from steering arm already. That was a Pita to start with
so yeh after the easiest way to unscrew it.
Only tried quickly with locking pliers this morning and no joy. left it soaking with Inox and will give it a bash later.

Keep soaking. Heat will help if it gets that far.

clamp?
its already off the steering arm (castle nut and pin are undone)

be sure you turn it the right way, one end will be left hand thread.

Not sure what zooks use (assuming you're working on the one in your sig) but Toyotas use a retaining clamp to lock the tie rod onto the tie rod end. Disregard the tags in this pic as they are referring to a power steering swap but you can clearly see the clamp on the RH tie rod end.

ahh got ya Ray.
Yeh zooks just have a threaded pipe basically, no clamps.

heat gun till its nice and hot and then ur locking pliers with a metre of pipe over them for leverage should turn.

You got a pic? I would have thought there would at least be a lock nut on the thread to stop the tie rod from turning.

Before you start, measure the distance from end to end and when fitting the new end wind it in till it measures the same.
A... Tie rod end
B... Lock nut (left hand thread)
C... Adjuster
D... Lock nut (right hand thread)
E... Tie rod.
Hold the adjuster (C) with a spanner and loosen the lock nut (B) and then unscrew the tie rod end (A).. It's left hand thread, so it's backwards to normal.
