How this sound for bits and peices
88 diesel, motor blown, but everything else is good. It has the locking centre diff and is the 5 speed manual.
Is the deisel LT230 any different to a petrol one ? ? ? will this one go into my 89Rangie without to much drama ? ? ?
Cheers

I'm not to sure if the diesel Range Rover LT230's had different high range ratios like Defenders (1.4-1) or whether they had the standard ratios (1.2-1).
I found that with my 33's running 1.2 in xfer case and 3.52 in diffs, the onroad performance was sh1thouse. I swapped in a defender box which brought back the ratios and performance back to standard (sort of). Unfortunately, low range in the defender t/c is the same as the Rangie/Disco one.
So the moral of this little story is that you'll need to start thinking about what ratios you want to run and how you want to achieve it ie diffs or xfer case.
For example, I have defender xfer with MaxiDrive crawler gears with std 3.54 cwp. Mickrangie has standard (1.2-1) xfer but runs 4.11 in the diffs. At the end of the day, our crawl ratios are pretty close, mine being slightly lower. Each way has pros and cons.

Hmm well at the moment I just looking to try get an LT230 with a complete range rover attached to it so i can part out the bits of the range rover I dont want and keep the bits I do want.
Main reason is to make the LT230 seem cheap in the end.
This LT230 is mated to a 5 speed manual aswell will that be a problem mating it to my ZF4speed auto ? ? ? or is it all the same in the end ? ? ?
Basically can I get this 88 deisel rangie and just swap the Xfer cases ? ? ?
Gearing isnt a factor just yet.

G'day AnthonyP
Where is this RR diesel with blown motor?? how much is it? I'm seriously considering changing my RR to my 300tdi but if I could get a RR that was registered with a diesel it would make insurance heaps easier
