my last one was diesel..

Alot of the ones around at moment are petrol / gas

just wanted to know ppls thoughts or if ppl have had both what they think would be better , keeping in mind car is to get me to and from work and going to be doing fair bit of off roading on weekends

what are some of the pro's and cons of DIESEL and PETROL / GAS

also just outta curiosity has anyone had a patrol with the 3L motor ( same as vl commodore ) are thry any goon for off road / getting wet

hey mate,

my patrol is a 4.2 turbo diesel, the reason i bought that is coz i jus wanted sumthin with more grunt compared to my 2.4 petrol lux, from what i have heard the 3l engines tend to blow after 200,000 k's and why i didnt get one, unless you are buying one that is very new where Nissan have fixed the problem go with the 4.2 in opinion.

Dil,

i vote for diesel i believe there more reliable (the td42 is anyway) and when off roading as soon as you come across deepish water the petrols generally suffer with leads dizzy and so on
as long as you have a good snorkel on a diesel it will go through anything

thats guys

yeah my last one was a diesel .. wish i had the cash for a 4.2L TD , at moment only have around $6000 to spend .. Not alot around for that sorta money .... But yeah the more i think about it might be a little better to go the 4.2 diesel .. cost bit more to fill but get more Ks outta it and wont die on me out in bush

on a second hand patrol/maverick what would be decent sorta Ks to look for on one

if you have the cash get the diesel, how ever the tb42 seems to have taken a leaf from the td engine as its entirely bullet proof, and same as the diesel will last for ever if serviced correctly.

the rb30 engine is heaps of fun (been in a couple) but really need to be turbo'd to get the wow factor going :D

dont think that will help your decision making but hey, they are all good engines, and if looked after well, will last a lifetime.

it all depends on what your preference is, and what you want to do with it.

ive had 3 TB42s and one of these was on gas. cant compare to a diesel as have never owned one, but have found these motors very reliable even gettin close to the 400,000 now. i would defintely be going a diesel if i was doing very long trips in remote areas and if i was towing regularly.

but for an everyday car that gets the odd bit of use on the weekends, i think the petty/gas are cheaper to run, and cheaper for parts and being no diesel mechanic I can gennerally fix what need be on it.

just keep an eye out for cracked heads on the gas tb42s when looking for these as was a big weakness in these motors. if you dont let these things get too hot and service regularly, theyll keep goin and goin.
