center diff lock or transfer problems

hey all i took my front shaft out today cause i put my lift in till i get my part time kit in a week or so and for some reason it felt like the diff lock motor is engaging and disengaging as i i would drive down the road and i will have no drive then all a suddel i will have drive again it sounds like the diff lock motor cause when i have no drive it grinds like its trying to go back in any ideas???

DO u have the CDL button turned on???

cos dont the 105's have a 70/30 split centre diff if the cdl isnt on? if they do then it may be tryin its best to drive but cant...

sorry ray i forgot to mention its on an 80 series yea i have the CDL switched on

Scott, sounds to me like the lock in the transfer has not been driven far enough. The cdl motor has a spring attatched so it can lock and when teeth line up, the spring engages them the rest of the way....its not easy, but i would double check the position of the cdl by first locking it, then dropping the crossmember, undoing the cdl and then rotating the gear into the transfer to ensure it is all the way home locked....if it is not all the way then obviously its been appart b4 and thats one reason why this cruiser was sooo cheap :) it would have got stuck everywhere when the going got hard.
