Ive got 33s on the way (i have a front auto locker in mind) and been thinking about getting chromoly longfeilds/spidertracks CVs. But is having your CVs as the weak link a good idea. What is normaly the next item to break. Ive done a rear side gear on standard axles, is ths what goes in the rear normaly?

Im not going to lie like the rest. No i didn't do a google or forums search

The next item in line after you upgrade your CV's is either the hub or the centre. Possibly drive line uni's. You may still break CV's even, but chances are it will be something else. What breaks can often come down to maintenance etc. E.G. a uni will be more likley to break if its not lubed etc. usually in the rear you break the axle, i have seen more axles broken than side gears.

Ive heard of CVs being cheaper to buy then the next item to break... Just dont want to pay big bucks for a set then extra for all the other weak links...

They are made by Warn, and are sacrificial, but I'm not sure what they protect...

yes i did, both with arbs, i broke 2 rear axles, calmini ones, i found they were to brittle, just ended up using stock axles in the rear.

Problem with blowing hubs is that they often screw the outer axle xpline up, making it useless.

With a well maintained car, I don't think anything is really likely to break. Bear in mind that the front R&P, unis, bearings etc are all the same size as the rear.

The crush sleeve collapsing will lead to R&P failure. I don't think the R&P is weak if it's properly set up and the bearing preload is correct.

It seems the US guys are giving their DT's heaps with up to 36's and the front ends are holding up.

I've changed too many CV's on the side of the track to think it's a smart idea to make them the "weak link" I'd much rather have traction as the weak link.

Steve.
