As above should i put a duel battery set up in my 2008 navara that will only be used for the occasional touring trip and our big 2010 5 week cape trip or is it a better option to buy a removable battery pack / jumpper type product.
opinions and brands used would be great
Thanks

How are you going to recherge the portable ? What are you going to use it for? Why not just work out a quick demountable system using anderson plugs, then you have best of both worlds?
Cheers.

Take a read of this article, it's got some pretty goodi nformation in it. You really have to decide what you are going to be powering before being able to make a decision.

I have a thumper pack with an inverter in it. I have set up a dual batt isolator to an anderson plug so I can plug the pack in and it works like a normal dual batt system. If I want power at my tent or whatever I just unplug it and carry it over. Also if I manage to get a flat main batt ie leave an interior light on or something I can carry the pack to the front of the car and jump start the motor off it.
Its more versatile then a dual batt set up but not as cheap. Cheap jump packs are rubbish espically if you have a diesel. The projector ones arent bad but they are still $400 I think. I also have no room under the bonnet for a 2nd batt so the thumper packs lives in the car and just plugs in under the drivers seat.
