What have people used successfully to upgrade the effectiveness of their headlights? I used to have the H4 inserts on the Zuk which were great until I drowned them

i would like to upgrade te patrols headlights and then save some $$$ and get some Lightforces as well.

So tell me what you use?

90/100w globes, that were needed to prevent being plunged into darkness after running IPF spotties. You'll probably find the same with the Lightforce lights.

I bought a Narva H4 replacement kit, very happy with the results. around 100 bucks, no need to change loom (unlike some other high priced kits), replacements are cheap as, both lens and globes. Lens is not sealed though. 60/90 I think is the wattage split, more than enough for me, my eyes are good, and I eat lots of carrots...

Used to run 4 H4 inserts with upgraded wiring providing 400w on high beam (90/100 globes) - awsome

Current car - installed super loom with a definite improvement.
- 90/100 globes and lightforce

Could be better though.

I been through a number of headlights. The last set I brought from Autopro. With head light (7" round type) and 100/135w globes it all came to about $28per a side. Then just add on a decent relay and abit of wiring, 20amp wire atleast as most 130w driving lights use about 16amps so 20amp wire should be ample.

should be threads on this in electrical section. btw, what is loom/relay like in your patrol as big gains in brightness can be had from upgrading crappy loom to better one. this can be done as diy or kit form.

sealed beam dont have so many problems on drowning, but need to replace whole lot when blows (but arent too expensive). removable h4 are good as can get some big globes, but sealed so good.

I put the IPF WIRING LOOM UPGRADE in my GU with the IPF low voltage bulbs in it an they are great they only pull 50watt low an 70 high but produce 100low an 130 high there good a bit dear but good.

I've said this before but I'll say it again, upgrade the wiring before you even worry about the globe wattage.

especially if you have long wiring runs... and solder connections if you can to avoid poor contact or oxidation issues....

huge wattage is often not the answer and causes huge probs in many situations....

I did the whole lot in my zook
Upgraded the loom with a relay (worked out that the power to your headlights in a zook travel over 10metres, no wonder they are dull)
changed the headlights to a different type of h4 coversion kit, these use a clear glass lense and a funny looking reflector the same as most new cars have they give a much more even and wider beam pattern than any others Iv'e tried, they come from a company called all crash parts your local panel shop may know where they are in your area
Finally I fitted Phillips vision plus globes 50% more light but still 55/60w so don't suck power

The difference it made was unreal, so much brighter and more useful light it's not funny

This happened to me too. Out of the water and up a steep bank = no more lights = good fun driving home in the dark

H4 inserts are good I run them in the lux along with upgraded loom and a pair of LightForce 240s.
But I run globes with 55 watt low and 100 watt high.
The way I see it is driving at night is becoming more and more of a pain in the ass with car having brighter and brighter low beams and I dont want to be one of those people so Ill stick with 55 watt lows.

The big LFs are great for when a d!ckhead passes you on blind corner or something stupid like that give em welding flash in their rear view mirror

It can be a real pain (as well as an annoyance to fellow road users) to run high wattage low beam lights, constantly getting flashed by oncoming vehicles for you to dip your lights, and when following those vehicles that are lower than you, pulling up behind them at the lights causes enough problems as it is...can be fun sometimes though...

For your zook, take the H4's and throw them to the shithouse ,
go to the wreckers and get a set of halogen sealed beams from a 75 series L/C they are real brite and will not fill up with water, ever.
This is what I run, (with new wires and relays) combined with a pair of 250W sealed beam spotties, it works tops, next time you are out on a nite drive with me jump in and have a look.

on second thought Graham, for what you use your car for these days, you may be better off with 4foot fluro tubes

That is my point Graham, forget about my spotties, just think about the head lights, I went from a dull yellow to a nice bright white, and they are only 75W an high beam and compleatly sealed to boot, and thats gotta be good

i saw that grey/purple (blobby stuff one the front) GQ shorty in total 4wd the other day and was just wondering, has anyone seen his headlights? they have a clear smooth lense and the reflective spread pattern is on the reflector bit. they look awsome and would be bright as i recon.

As I said before, Some TJM shops have them as well

I went to supercheap and got 55/65 lightforce ....they r great high beam better than 100watt halo cleaner light 2 ...

oh btw they were only $40.00
