Think my fuel pump need rebuilding cause it seems like its not getting enough fuel at high rev's (3200rpm++). i just put brand new injectors in it and it still seems like its spluttering a little bit.
Instead of gettin my pump reco'd i want to get a surf pump with a boost compensator on it as im turboing the car in the near future (hence why im so worried about dodgy fuel pump). After all im wondering what fuel pump will fit on my 2.8 hilux off a surf. im pretty sure the 2.4 would fit but im pretty sure its a smaller pump. Did the 3ltr surf have turbo's and if so would the fuel pump fit on my car??.
ALL INPUT IS WELCOME CAUSE IM AN AMATEUR WHEN IT COMES TO STUFF LIKE THIS. cheers, HTH

By the time you buy a surf pump and get it set up you might as well get your 2.8 pump rebuilt and done for the turbo, the 2.4 or 3.0 pump could turn into a nightmare to get right. I had my 2.8 pump done to factory specs plus 10% for the turbo. It ran like clockwork and went unreal with not a boost compensator in sight.
Also had a 2.5 inch exhaust put on.

trouble is your buying a 2nd hand pump. who knows how long the seals etc will last. i would reco the 2.8 and fit boost comp at the same time.

The only surf pump that can easily work on your 2.8 (3L) engine is one from an earlier 2.4 TD (2LT, or 2LT-2) engine which has boost compensator. Just need to up the fuel delivery for the 2.8.
The later 2.4 TD (2LT-E), is controled via an ECU so would need to add all the wiring, etc. + CAS to get it to work.
The 3.0 TD (1KZ-TE) won't work.
I would do as tweak'e suggests, rebuild your 2.8 pump.

I paid around $870 drive in drive out for full strip clean and rebuild and setup for turbo. All I needed were new seals etc and new top cover.

depends a bit on the place and your pump, can be big dollars, but best bet is to speak with some injection pump specialists.
get yours rebuilt and as mentioned above get a boost compensator off the 2.4 fuel pump and put it ontop of yours.

i wont be changing the boost after it is set (prob 9 psi) so if i get it tuned at that will the boost compensator be necessary?
