Gearbox mount verses engine mount??

Hi there, just wondering if anyone knows for sure what the difference is between the gear box mount and the engine mount other than the fact that the gearbox mount has a larger thread on it. I have heard that the rubber density is different but not sure. As both fit either am wondering which is stronger as i have now broken all mounts, gearbox and engine.
Also does anyomne know of any aftermarket H/D mounts i can buy off the shelf here in Aus without going overseas?

I haven't had anything to do with V8 disco's, only RRC and 300Tdi disco.
Jag V12 mounts are heavier, but the larger diameter is too large for RRC gearbox mounts.
AFAIK engine and gearbox mounts are the same for RRC - no difference in thread size, unless they were changed in later years.
300Tdi disco engine and gearbox mounts are completely different.

From my dealings with them they are the same including the threads.

Same as I posted in your old thread.
The heavy duty ones you are after are made by QT Services. I bought mine from Rovacraft in Perth. Had them posted to Brisbane.

I destroyed about 4 or 5 rubber ones from FWD (which are cheap crap mind you) before I fitted these. Still have the rubber ones on the gearbox but they are unlikely to break with the QT engine mounts holding the engine down.
My Disco is a V8 manual with 245/75R16 muddies and rear locker so I'd hate to think of the lifespan of rubber mounts on anything seriously modified.

Ahh but i must have missed the rovercraft bit as i looked at the qt ones but wasn't interested in ordering overseas. I had a brief look on rovercraft but didn't find them but will have a good look tomorrow.
cheers.

thats what everyone says but some old fella at a rover dealership told me they were different and when i started to ask around i got the run around so i dug his number out and give him a call, he was kind enough to give me the part number, i quoted this number to my local parts suppliers and to their amazement the part existed and so i have one of each on my bench in the shed, the odd one was the gearbox mount which seems heavier duty but was infact $5 or so cheaper which priced in at about $17 or so off memory.

I checked the Rovacraft website when I posted and all they had on their site was 'QT Services' under their products list. They don't appear to have the mounts listed as such.
I got Rovacraft's name after emailing QT in the UK. I was going to order from them direct (didn't know Rovacraft sold their stuff) but they said they would prefer I used their Aussie reseller.

Cool, thanks for this. I'll have to keep this in mind when I have to change them.

Actually, you can fit the V12 jag mount on one side of the gearbox, but not the other. Can't remember which side though, and its dark outside!

I snapped both standard engine mounts (brand new at the time) and one of the gearbox mounts in one go. Dumped the clutch in a hole, and the gear lever decided to attack me. Had to drive home with the gearbox ratchet strapped to the chassis.

Not a day out with Walker? I think I've heard about this.

Think it was Blowhard, probably 2 years ago now.... Deep hole, with thick black sticky mud - all the sloppy stuff had been thrown out, and what was left was like wet tar. lots of resistance when you've got 4 simex buried in it.
And no, not a day out with Walker - don't think I've ever met Walker, although I THINK I know some people that he also knows.

...
I used one on the left side, but with a 3mm body mount washer as a packer between the jag mount and the bracket on the gearbox - a protrusion on one side of the gearbox bracket would not let the mount sit flush without a packer. There was no possibility to use a jag mount on the rh side.

On Hijacks county i cut the thread off the mount and drilled them right thru and fitted a bolt thru the whole thing. Hasnt let go since.
On the transfer mount i had to cut a triangle section out of the alloy part of the mount as so i could get a bolt thru the rubber part and sit flat against it as so it could be tightened. The county drivetrain is a 3.9 Zf and LT
