Late 1hz timing belt hydraulic tensioner

I have a 98 landcruiser 100 series and am after a little bit of info on the timing belt tensioner, on this model it is the hydraulic tensioner and i am wondering how to reinstall it.

hi mate pretty sure its the same as most of the other ones take it out and it fully extends then put it in a vice end to end and slowly compress the pin into it again, you will see a hole in the housing and one in the shaft slide a split pin into the hole so it holds the shaft in. reinstall on car and once the belt is set up ready for tension pull the split pin out and it will spring out again.

nt that it should mater but with those type of tensioners its best to keep them the same as they mount wen compressing them, ie, if its vertical then keep vertical, thats just the way iv been taught, have had magna 1s that play up wen compressed in vice
