basically the same motor - will turbo OK but would recommend 10lb max & 500 deg pyro max. Factory turbo internals will take more boost & EGTs - I believe they have bigger gudgeon pins, HD conrods & turbo pistons but if there's some-one on OL that has stripped them down to compare - please jump in.

Turbo models have different pistons too keep them cooler but there are still many non turbo td's out there that have been turbo'd and are running 20+ lbs boost no worries. just do your research get your mixtures right and intercool and you should be ok

I'm sure someone can post up the dates to confirm, but i know with the GQ TD42's from 1989 to 1994 were built fairly strong, but from 1994 onwards the N/A versions were lightened up to allow for a more free-revving engine. Not too sure what happened with the N/A GU TD42's, but i would assume they would have received the "revised" lighter TD42.
As said, there's plenty of N/A motors getting around with turbo's on them - just make sure you have the right people tune the car once the turbo is on.
I'm sure someone will correct me if i'm wrong.
