Outer Limits 4x4 Board

i need new tyers for my 80 series cruser. not sure wether to get a set of all terrains or some similar or to get a set of roadies and a seperat set of 4x4. any suggsetions? brands?? ta

What do you do with it?

mainly road but planning on doing more weekends away.

Sounds like you need some ATs dude. Then again, we could offer a heap more advice if you were a bit more specific on what type of wheeling you do, what sort of terrain you cover, how often you take it out, how long you expect them to last etc. etc.

Coopers, procomp, bfg (ugh), Mickey T etc. etc all offer good Mall terrains, look em up, make your choice, pay your money, call it done.

I'd go MTR's.

Get two sets.


TSL's, ET's, JT2's, or something similar for play only.


And whatever you want for daily duty. Maybe BFG muds, sposed to be very long lasting and not useless off road.

doing mainly black stuff wit a few gravel roads.

on trips away we do a bit of every thing. mud, dust, creeks, rocks, up hills, down hills, nothing too major got a bub in the back and dont want he's head to fall off (looked like it was going to last weekend! ).

dont wanna spend lots & lots of $$ but want something that'll stop us from gettin bogged!

silverstone at tyres are pretty decent in my opinon

Wrangler silent armor (AT) is my current tyre . Look them up on Goodyears web page for details. I was lucky and bought them on their buy 3 and get forth free deal. Happy with them so far.

Definately recomend the 4 rib ATZ's.

I was running a set on the rear of my drillrig with the previous employer, and they outdrove all the other AT's in the fleet, and the only time the rig went better offroad was when we fitted MTZ's all round.

Extremely good manners on road, good offroad for an AT, only let down was they clogged fast in sticky clay, but then again the MTZ's did too.

I had this issue myself last year. I love 4WDing, and had Cooper STT's, but didn't do enough offroad work to warrant buying more aggressive tyres (before the STT's, I had ST's). The most aggressive tyre that I considered were the Cooper ST, and the least aggressive the Cooper ATR's. One tyre that I believe slots in between the above mentioned tyres is the Yokohama Geolander AT-S. I reckon these tyres are competing with the Bridgestone Dueler 694's and the Good Year Silent Armours, but are a little bit more aggressive. I chose the Yoko's over my favoured Cooper tyres due to their lower price (ST's $249, ATR's $230 and Yoko AT-S $189). They are really good on road (virtually silent) and haven't let me down offroad after 40,000km. So far I have been to Corner Country, Simpson Desert, Flinders Ranges, NW Victoria, Kangaroo Island and many more places. I though that changing to these tyres would really disappoint me when offroad (I was wrong), but my old Paj got up Big Red 3 times and didn't even spin a wheel on Skytrek!

I am also using Silent Armour. They are very good on the road and more than reasonable off road. As I am getting lazy these days I cant be bothered swapping to my other wheels and the Silent Armours stay on all the time.

5 rib ATZ is my vote

have them on dads 80 series land cruiser and they are great for a more road based vehicle, awesome for the beach and gravel roads,

Mate I run the Maxxis Bravo 751's as my roadies and had a great run. they wear well, are quiet and a damn site cheaper then the big name stuff. Paid $210e for 33x12.5x15, 12mths ago, they even work ok on rock! Have other mates running them also and they have had good results also! BFG are majorly overprices now as are some of the other bigger named American tyres Just got quoted 2 days ago for 30x9.5x15 BFG ATs $300e

has anyone tried the yokohama Geolandar M/T+?? they look like an ok mt tread and i was told they have great on-road handling

just don't get BFG AT's. They're woeful

I love my BFG's. They are great on the black stuff and even better in the dirt.
Had coopers ST before. never again. They were very slipery on the wet blacktop.

me also, but 250ea for 31x10.5 r15. Check your req load rating tho. these are only 109...
