engine swap in 89 rodeo

Not if this ones been approached before...but heres a go ;)

The engine in the rodeo may be on the outer. if it's a better idea going the diesel engine route, be it turbo or non turbo diesel, how hard and what things are needed to put the diesel in an already petrol car?
is it as simple as grabbing a deisel and swaping them over?
(fuel ine differances, cooling system etc)
I kinda prefer the diesel idea as it can cop water a bit more than a petrol and not leave you stranded, but a bit more tourque as well.

Just really after opinions and if it's a pipe dream, or possible reality.

would the boxes be differant on the bellhousings though?
clutches i would suspect be differant.

Petrol has the starter on the driver side
Diesel on the passenger side
Bell housings is part of the gearbox and cannot be changed

i have a complete 3.1 turbo intercooled diesel and all accesaries radiator complete 66,000klms for sale 0418614681 and auto with transfer also have instrument cluster to suit has tacothe lot
