Air Locker Prices

Hi All

I've been quoted $1125 each for air lockers to suit mine.....what's the best price that people are aware of. Brisbane ARB quote $1172, which isn't bad considering I can go and pick them up.

Any help greatly appreciated.

It's possible to get them for about 1K ea with a little "i'll tell you what.." at the counter. However if you had a business name/deal with them regually/ set up some dodgy scheme to trick our friends at ARB, the mid to high $800's is also possible.

Personally i'd go with the former, cause if something goes wrong it's much easier to go back.

you have to buy in significant bulk and be a regular ARB distributor to get anything like that price; the best price a shop that only turns over a few can expect is about $950. don't expect any better than around $1050 - $1100 without contacts in the industry. there are probably guys on this board who can help you get it a bit cheaper especially if you've got something they want, like beer, or spiderman comics, or lego  :D

Well, who's interested in buying an air locker or two NOW?

If we can get enough people who are serious about it, those interested could do some ringing/emailing around and secure a good bulk buy deal.

When we screw down the best deal it would be up to each individual to pay for theirs directly to the supplierand each to pay own delivery.

Come on guys who's serious?? I want two air lockers and I'd prefer to pay $900 (or less) than $1172 each!!

If I get a couple of others I'll post a new thread and on other forums to gauge serious interest.

Anyone got any other ideas??

Group buy sounds like a good idea - I'd be intersted providing that there are definite prices.

I can tell you from personal experience having done a few bulk deal things now...

1) start new thread, just saying who is lookin for GQ lockers.

2) DONT ADVERTISE A PRICE.. Use PM only to genuine people willing to hand over $ there and then.
Dealers get pissed off when you brag about the great deal, it shows how much they make on top + sometimes the deal price is lots better than they can get, so causes shit all around.

There was a bulk deal on ARB kit while back on Patrol list, but was canned when a dealer complained to ARB about the pricing etc. The dealer that was doing the good price got shit on too if I remember was 12-18 mths ago...

3) you will probably only get the good price from one dealer in one state... EG Melbourne...
This will only work for people who can pick them up, as freight would be a few $ for a pr of lockers from one end of aussie to the other.

4) Get money from people instead of each to their own. Makes them go through with the deal regardles. Get a 75% deposit non refundable, and get it off them AS SOON as they say interested. You will get 30 promises, and 5 payers in the end, then you get shafted with your deal. Cash up front gets peoples attention and makes sure they are serious.

I'm doing the exact same thing. I've got a set of 4.56 ratios sitting here getting lonely. So far I've been quoted around $3k for installation of the ratios and F/R ARBs...so any saving from that I'm in!

That sounds abit expensive. As they dont have to do anytrhing to your old diffs other than take them out and stick them in the boot. Cos arb's come comlete with everything except C&P (diff gears) and the 3rd member (trhink thats what it is called).

if that is a drive-in drive-out price I think it's pretty good. if the new gears are to be installed in the existing centres (3rd members) it almost doubles the required installation time per diff (not including r&r), and if it includes new diff bearings (it should) then the price is excellent. you'll find if you drive into Macquarie or Mannell's and say "2 air lockers installed please" without the re-gear or new bearings I don't think you'd get much change from 3k.

cheers

Brian

Spose got quoted roughly $1500 for ring & Pinion plus install (drivin - drive out).
As ring & pinion are about $550 an end would have thought the install of lockers wouldn't have been much more effort than fitting them, as basically the whole lot needs to be pulled apart as per a locker install.
But your right 3k including compressor is good, just didn't think about it.

In relation to fitting only, I was quoted (drive in drive out) $750 for both lockers + $50 each diff to fit gears.

Another shop sent me a breakdown of costs and you can save yourself around $350 if you take the centres out and drop them at the shop.

$3k was for 1 x front & 1 x rear ARB locker for a Jeep, installation of lockers, plus installation of the ratios I'm supplying (including the master install kits with bearings)...plus I've already got the compressor (but it ain't installed).

But yep, drive in, drive out.

Funny thing is I've rung around and been given several different prices for the lockers/install...but all have ended up at $3k.
