Hey, i am currently running a 3.9 in a softdash classic which is startion to get a bit noisy and tired at nearly 250,000km. I have another 3.9 i salvaged out of a fire damaged disco that i want to rebuild and slot in the rangie onec finished.
If i'm going to spend the money however i am thinking i may aswell just take longer to do it (funds) and try and get some more ooph out of it. i was originally thinking just rebuilding the 3.9 and toughen it up an add some turbo's however there isnt alot of room under the bonnet of a softdash with all the abs and cruise control and other shit under there.
So i was thinking increasing displacement. I am an apprentice mechanic hence the tight-ish funds but i will be doing it all myself.
I have heard somehting aout using ford 4.1 pistons on holden 186 rods with a p76 crank to get about 4.9-5.0L but i don't know much more than that. I was wondering if someone could point me in the right direction of where to start.
I have also seen another build using a buick 300 crank with chev rods etc but i think parts like that could be hard to source in australia.
So if anyone could point me in the right direction to start with would be great, i want around 5.0 -5.2L i'd love to get on from uk already built but i cant really afford $11,500 for a engine
