Heyyas, I am not a Toyota person, but I have a good mate who is so I am helping him with some research.

Firstly, he has an 80 Series, it has a 4.0 peddy engine (I think 3f?), the truck is in pretty good nick, but a bit slow, he is looking a a really cheap late model 80 with the 4.5 EFI engine which has really low kays but has had an interior fire that has claimed the body but all running gear is in great nick and the engine is untouched.

Originally he wanted it for the diffs arms etc and any other bits we ruin out in the bush, but he has been thinking of fitting the 4.5 running gear also.

So, I guess the main things we need to know are.....

1) Does the 4.5 chassis have the engine mounts in the same place as the 4.0 chassis?

2) If not, we are thinking of dropping his trucks body onto the 4.5 chassis, are the body mounts in the same place between early (1990) and late 80 series?

Any other issues you guys can think of?

Thanks.

fire damaged will be no good to you

as you will need to swap the loom and ecu from the donor car

you would be better off with a rust bucket or a roll over

Loom and ECU are nothing, that stuff is easily had from a wrecker, but the issue is the 4.5 is an Auto, the 4.0 is a manual and he wants to keep it manual, does the 4.0 manual fit the 4.5 or are the bolt patterns different?

just a bell housing swap box is the same
the mounts on the chasis are diferent for the auto
so just use the original chasis and drive shafts

swap the front and rear diffs and the brake master instant brake upgrade

you will need a fly wheel and clutch

then source entire loom and a manual ecu from a wrecker

Sweet as, so the 4.5 will bolt up to the 4.0 engine mounts on the chassis or do we need to weld up new mounts?

I cannot actually say i have bolted a diesel inplace of a 4.5 and it lined up no worries so one would assume so

but even so it it is no biggy i have moved them when i fitted my 2jz they are just mig welded on along the edge very easy to remove and refit if you have a grinder and a welder

cheers
