I spoke to the local muffler man and he said that ebay extractors are crap. Nothing lines up and they don't help with power... Has anyone got them do they actually help. Yes i did do a search

I don't know about that, as I got mine from the muffler man, who fitted them.

I do know many here say that there is no power gain with extractors, which I say is a load of codswollop.

Maybe my whole system was crap, but, I found quite a noticeable difference, mostly her ability to hang on under extreme load.

Thanks another thing he said was using my cat. Is it worth buying a new cat or should i just take my cat off and replace it with a piece of pipe...lol

Legally speaking, if your car needs a cat, you must run one, I have not looked into mine, didn't have one when I bought it, duznt have one now.

There are a few people here who have run the ebay extractors so they should be able to comment, but as for cats, its irresponsible of you not to run one not to mention illegal. If you dont run one, do yourself a favour and dont advertise the fact on a public forum.

Mate,

your zook can be engineered for just about anything, except for no cat, its an environmental issue as well.

Id go the extractors followed by a 2" system.

Mine can be engineered with no cat, in fact my Engineer told me I don't need a cat and I hadn't even asked about it. It depends on the year and model.

if you want cheap 'extractors' look into early 83-87 swifts and barinas stock exhaust manifolds, they have long primaries, short secondaries, are cast iron with a heat shroud , and will cost you $50 at the wreckers.

get your exhaust man/dude/goat to cut the downpipe at appropiate spot and weld a y pipe facing the rear
It would be better than the bog stock log manifold and most likely set up to increase hp given early 8v swifts had '5PS' more than later models.

(the other option is a vitara manifold, but they are harder to get hold of cheap and are often cracked!)

not all exhaust shops are created equal, not all 2'' systems will give you an improvement of flow

a good hi-flowing cat (which in a sierra is prob any stock cat designed for 3l vehicles) would only suck 0.01 hp from your engine, but if you want a real world answer, look at the difference of the fine for no cat and running 29' and then look at how many cops are willing to overlook 29's and how many cops who are checking your exhaust are willing to overlook the cat)

i have the ebay extractors josh all though mine are 1.6 efi ones. They were pretty cheap, delivered quick and i think the build quality was far good enough, have seen worse exhaust work. The ports etc lined up fine, everything seemed good.

Yeah you should run a cat for all the legal reasons. My engineer checked that, was probably his main concern. So either use yours again or get some sort of a 2" one from the shop.I don't know how much you would gain from a hi flow cat etc but they were dear when i asked.

I bought a set of Hurricane brand extractors for just a little bit more than the ebay ones. Reason I didnt go for the ebay ones was they are not mandrel bent, so they neck down at the bends. So I figured if I was going to spend the money I'd get the better designed Hurricane ones.

As for power. I think the percieved power increase is because extractors let the engine rev more freely, so it can get to peak power quicker

update, just dropped into pick`n`paythesameifnotmore
and all the 1.3l swifts had the 4>2>1 manifolds and they looked like they would clear the sierra engine mount. the only question i couldnt answer is if all the heads have square exhaust ports

iv got the ebay extractors and there been fine, only problem i had was because i had a coily sierra, after i removed my front sway bar and lifted it thay hit on the rod that runs behind the diff (cant remember what its called) when flexing, i let the block no i brought them of 4 months later and he made me another set 1 inch higher to clear, free of charge and no questions asked and i even got to keep the old ones which fit a leafy sierra fine.

e-bay extractors are fine and the 2 sets i have got have lined up spot on.
If you fit them on a standard exhaust they make more noise but not power. Really they need a 2" system to get a noticeable result.
I have found the best combo to be extractors 2" pipe with no cat (or bashed out) and 2 hot dog (str8 through) mufflers give a good note and let the motor rev a bit more freely, i dont think theres much of a hp gain overall tho, but they seem to breath better.

i have 1.3 runnign 30" bfg muddies.
Previous to changes would sit on 90km/h between 4th and 5th gear on the hwy.

After putting on redback extractors and 2" exhaust, now sits comfortably on 110km/h, and climbs hills in 4th (unspeakable in a standard zook).

Best money i have spent on the car. unbelievable!!
