When using the hole saw put 50mm masking tape around the area around the place you are cutting, use cutting compound to assist the hole saw to cut correctly.

Go to an industrial supplier, etc and get yourself a step drill if you don't have, there's no better way to put holes up to 20mm in car panels.

Before painting the edges of any holes or cuts de burr them as well as you can, sharp edges lead to thin paint which leads to earlier corrosion.

I use one of those hand held de burrers with changeable blades.

Measure thrice, have a beer or break, measure again then drill/cut holes in your car :D
