Hey everyone,
Own a swb Gq patrol. I have noticed that ( over the past couple of months) when it is cold and i try to take off it seems something is stopping it from moving foward, like the handbrake is on for a split second, then it ju8mps foward and that seems to be the end of it. I have taken it to the mechanics, but as murphy has it, it doesnt happen at that time. I orinally had a broken engine mount, which i thought was the problem, but has been fix and still happens?
I have checked the handbrake and is not the problem.
Any knowledge or advise would be appreciated.

P.s Drives normal but dont want to do any more damage if i am.

Had a similar problem with my old shorty and the handbrake cable wasn't releasing due to mud ingress.

if its running fine, but only does it when its cold. Maybe your choke setup isnt right. hence why when you took it to the mechs, problems not there, car is warm.

Handbrake or diff. I had a similar problem (in an MK) where the diff would grab and then lurch forward when it freed up.
Take it to the mechanic and leave it there overnight if you think its a heat related issue.

if so, you may need to get your wallet ready for a transmission rebuild.

Yeah its dual fuel, but happens on both. Will have another look a handbrake(thought the mechanic would of picked that though?). Coxy you described it well, grabs then lunges foward. Did you find out the problem?
Its manual lucky enough or i would be stressing.
Thanks everyone will have alook at what you all have mentioned.
Cheers

I was only a young feller at the time, but i do know that the local mechanic charged my old man $1300 to remove and repair the rear diff centre.
I still have the invoice/receipt at home, all it says is that there was a major issue with the LSD (i didn't even know it HAD an LSD), and that they replaced it with an open centre.
A few years passed, then i bought the car off Dad. 2500km (and 5 years) after the repair it did the exact same thing to me - arsehole mechanic wouldn't come good on his warranty as the time had expired. I dropped the oil and found some concerningly big metal filings. Pretty sure i just put fresh oil in it and just drove the car - no further repair.
I'd say it could be a meshing problem, or a sloppy set of bearings on either the pinion or carrier.
