if ur keeping it diesel id go a sufr 3.0l turbo around 100kw
ur engine puts out 56kw @ 4200 160nm @ 2400
if ur wanting petrol id go the 4.0l all alloy v8 toyota you can pick up engine packs (engine comp + wire harness) from around $2000.00
4litre 1uz-fe 191kw @ 5400rpm / 353nm @ 4600rpm
4litre 1uz-fe vvti 206 @ 6000rpm / 402nm @ 4000rpm
4.2litre 3uz-fe vvti 206kw @ 5600rpm / 430nm @ 3400rpm
landcruser 4.7litre 173kw @ 5600rpm / 422nm @ 3600
5.0l 1gz-fe vvti 206kw @ 5200rpm / 481nm @ 4000rpm
vn v6 125kw / vp 127kw / vr 130kw later 132kw/ vs ecotec 147kw
id say the toyota v8 is the go.if going petrol just look at the specs.
hope that helps u out. & good luck

How much $$$$$ do you want to spend?
No point even thinking about a 1UZ-FE if you don`t want to spend that sort of money.

hom many km on your 2.4? is it in good condition? simplest power up is to turbo the 2.4 but it still won't make it a ball tearing power machine - butit's cheap and easy. can get turbo kits from wreckers more or less complete for under $1000.

The 1UZ is found in Crowns, Celsiors and Soarers. There are probably more cars they were used.

Turbo will make a significiant diference...
BUT surely you dont wanna resist temptation to go a more powerful engine such as a toyota v8 or the cheaper option - commodore v6 efi ??

I think the BBS needs a Lux engine swap sticky
I always end up harping on about the Supra swap whenever someone is looking to power up a Lux.
For bugga all $$$ you can drop a 5M (2.8) or 7M (3.0) straight 6 into a Lux. Because the old Supras are cheap to buy and the motor bolts straight up to the Lux box you can get one in the hole for under $1000 including engine !
Do some searching for 5M ( or 5M-GE ) 4runner swaps and you should get the info you need. Also research other options, V6 Commo and 1UZ and both good swaps.

do you have any specs on these motors?
is it what you have in yours??

Yeah I know SS. If i had looked into the supra swap before i started the v6 I woulda gone the 7M for sure. I just brought up the 5k job because thats the cheapest I have seen for a v6 commo swap. Others I looked at were 8-10k if i remember correctly.
Hey gut someone was asking about the 7MGE and supra swap just a couple of weeks ago and I put up some links to ones already done (5MG and 7MG). Just run a search and you should turn the thread up. If all else fails look back a couple of pages.

1UZ-FE cost me $1900 by the time it was here and the adaptor is going to cost me $1400, then I`ll make some engine mounts and have exhaust and engineers to pay for.

Um, there never was a Supra wth a V6.
1984 model is the 5M-GE straight 6.
$1800 is a bit steep, would expect to pay $500 - $1000 for a manual one.

thanks to every body for your assistance
i think i am gonna go with the 7m, turbo if i can find one. from what i can gather it will bolt straight onto the gearbox , will i need to make new mounts?
the electrics and fuel, etc i can work out later but i am gathering from what everyone has said it is pretty much just a straight swap. am i correct in this assumption.
i also gather i will need to get a half cut or a whole car so all the wiring comes with it. is correct??
and finally anyone know a good place to get one around sydney???
cheers

I am currently putting a 1uzfe into my 1993 surf. I bought the 1uz for $2000 in a half cut. The V8 bolted straight to the original hilux gearbox which is the auto (A343F) which was a suprise. I trial fitted the motor the motor on the weekend and found that the back right of the sump hit on the front diff, otherwise everything is fits well. I plan to either modify the sump or install a 4inch ifs lift kit which drops the front diff. Or do a solid axle conversion which would solve all problems.
I currently have a 2.4 Turbo diesel (2L-TE) for sale which has a reconditioned turbo and Aftermarket head wich was worth $1600 new. I will seperate the turbo/manifolds and everything else associated or you can have the whole motor. Motor comes with loom and computer etc. Make and offer if you are interested.
