Fused relay's opinions

Hey all,

Just want to get other peoples opinions on the narva or hella 4pin relays that have the blade fuse built into them. I have always seen them, but have never really used them. I took one apart today and they look OK quality.
Only prob is they are not suppresed, Which means would have to add an external suppression diode.

Anyway, does anyone use them and what do you think about them?

I always like to put the fuse as close to the power source as possible (which is usually the battery +ve terminal when using relays.) So I can't see much point in them personally.

Unless you're driving the relay coil from some sort of electronic triggering circuit the suppression diode shouldn't really be necessary?

Most electronics interfaces with the relays (ECU's etc) will have the diode on the circuit board rather than near the relay. Very few relays are produced with the flyback diode on the base.

I have had no dramas with them

This is the set up i use

Relay and fuse is directly below the switch they control
