Coil over / Air shocks ??? Question about conversion.

I was looking at my 40 series ute today that I am turning into a buggy. I has no tray or roof or doors so its just going to have a cage and a couple of seats ie just a buggy.

I was looking at the rear leaf springs which are so hard it doesnt have any rear flex or movement since I took all the weight off. I was thinking converting to 4 link with coils would be a good way to get some flex out of the thing.

Then I though coil overs or those air shock thingys would be even better and easier to set up.

I was just wondering where do you get them from and what sort of $$ would I be looking at for a pair just for the rear.

I dont want to buy some and find they are no good or to stiff or soft .

Setting up the 4 link rear is easy enough just the springs and shocks are something that others experiance will save me alot of hassles with.

I dont see the problem.

It is easy,

Until you start to talk anti squat and roll centre !

As for the Shocks both can be adjusted just how much you want to spend.

Why not look at 3/4 eliptical / buggy leaf etc ?

Exactly.

THe mechanical work is easy. Getting a 4 link to perform well and be reliable is the hard bit.

What shocks/springs/coilovers/airbags whatever you use is the easy bit. none of that matters if the geometry is wrong.

Ok maybe the wrong choice of words. Its going to be only used to play off road out at ormeau and places like that and I was just going to copy what others have done. I can make the arms and that easy enough in the lathe and I was just thinking of using rose joints cos it wont be doing many ks.

If its going to be too much hassle I might just take a bunch of leaves out of the packs to soften it up. I just like making things so thats the main reason I was looking into the idea.

Thanks for the info so far.

Also what are 3/4 eliptical springs?? Excuse my ignorance
