2006 GU PATROL ELECTRICAL FAULT HELP!!!!!!!

Post by fumduk3 »

All of a sudden my 12/2006 GU coil cab has started to have an annoying electrical fault. It loses air con, loses tacho, runs /idles like crap, starts crap as the glow light flickers on for a nano second then off. Worse still its an intermittent fault. As soon as i stick the key in and turn it to ignition on and the glow light flickers i know its gonna start, run like crap, no a/c, no tacho. But if it glows for 5 to 6 seconds as normal everythings fine. Has anyone come across this as i cant be the first person with this fault. Does the TD42Ti have an engine ecu or similar as i thought it didnt only advance timer control on the injection pump. the manual i have reckons the glow relay is being switched on and off by an earth signal from "engine ecu"???? Have checked/replaced glow timer, cleaned every connectiion i can find, dismantled and cleaned the crap of the ignition switch contacts, cleaned all relay/fuse/fusible link boxes inside and out. Any help would be breat. Yes i know it is still under warranty but with little mods here and there i will be paying either way. Cheers all.

Sounds like a short somewhere, if you have voltmeter do a test on the pins in each plug going to your pump for shortage, cheak for chaffing etc, I' sure you probly have but it sounds like one of those simple things that really tests your patience. The pump doesn't have ECU just EGR controler and electronic advace as you stated, with throttle position sensor.
Also cheak your AC idle up circuit for short and temp sender.
Your glow plug controler is wired into temp sender etc.

Ahh the good old Nissan earth problems strike again, jump on to the patrol4x4 forum and search for "earth" or "electrical faults"

You should find several issues where people have had to add an extra earth from the battery directly to the chassis and directly to the body work, i have done it(just incase)

I'd be going down the factory warranty way first. They are obligated to find the problem to see if it is covered by warranty or if someone has messed with it. If it is covered, fixed for free. If not prob won't charge and will tell you what it is. Just my 2 cents - I work for a dealer.
I'm not quitting drinking, I'm retiring at the top of my game - sporting comeback likely.
