Outer Limits 4x4 Board

ok so im searching for new batteries for my TB42 patrol. not running the winch off either for the moment till i get 24V sorted for it. the second battery will be running all accessories and the main bat will just be for starting, nothing else. i have thermos, 50ltr waeco, 4x240 blitz lights. the best deal ive found so far is this;

the 27dc36 is about the biggest n70/ah combo you can find. It was my pick before i managed to get onto the AGM deal that occured through alco batteries, i now just have to make the bastards fit as they are 20mm longer than n70

I have a Super Charge MF95D31L cranking battery. These things are awesome. The specs shown here http://linux.supercharge.com.au/product ... php?seq=59 must be for the older model. The current spec is rated at 780CCA and I also think the RC has increased slightly. I have had mine load tested to almost 900CCA!!!!

They are a sealed maintenance free style with a 2 year warranty.

Read somewhere that sealed lead batteries arent the go in 4x4 use due to being used in a wide variety of angles, vibrations, run flat and over charged . etc etc. ...... Will be many to prove it wrong im sure.

I went to a truck battery n150? about the same price as a N70 and extra capacity and cranking. I can only get about a year or so out of any regualr 4x4 battery from hard starting of my diesel.

Don't get SLA and AGM technologies confused.

AGM's are perfect for 4WDing exactly due to the fact there is nothing to leak (why they can also be used in aircraft too). All the acid is wicked into a glass mat separator between the plates and as there is a limited amount of acid, they only can only produce a small amount of gas. This gas can be easily containefd in the battery. There is a release valve but it is more of an emergency blow-off to stop the battery physically exploding. Good for everything. Extremely low internal resisitance

SLA are more conventional lead acid construction with an adequate gas collecting chamber engineered into their construction that is aceptable for operations within their charge/discharge limits. The acid is contained in a gel against the plates and needs to be significantly thicker than a AGM glass mat to enable it to be self supporting. The downside of this is the gel cantains significantly more acid = more gas under high load/high charge rate conditions. If the limits of their charge/discharge specifications are exceeded for any legth of time they can and will explode due to their gas pressure build-up within their sealed construction. Not good for continual starting duties or high output loads, best left to their A/H rate (20 hr) levels. Low to moderate internal resistance.

Both types from a safety point of view are far safer in 4Wd than a "sloppy".

i went to battery world to pick up a new battery for the patrol and ended up with a ameron high-life same size of the standard battery rated at 640cca/80 ah but told cranks out over 780 cca starts the patrol super quick no long cranking just turn the key instant start wether it is cold or hot i would recomend this battery to any one and i have used everything from a supercheap one to century one and they don't stand a chance against this thing and for only 205 bucks absolutely awesome hope this helps

the N150 is good but it is twice the size of an N70... bit hard to fit it in.
