ifs springs in front

Post by killalux »

just wondering how much trouble it is to get these under the front of a lux, and is it worth the extra work, wheel travel and comfort wise.
cheers

i did it with mine, nice and soft, rides great on road and flexes mad offroad, moved the hanger forward 3" and down 2.5", 2" longer banana shackles and a few mixed matched leaves and its all done

well worth the extra work over std rears up front

How does your setup compare with a "std Hilux rears up front" setup hypo- I mean height wise?

With the front hanger 3" forward this would move front axle about 1" forward, right?

And how does this setup go with the crossover steer? Seems there are a few people having trouble with spring/ chassis/ pitman arm clearance of their low crossover steer with other spring setups.

STD hilux rears or std IFS rears up front?

People are only having troubles with pitman arm clearance after doing SAS cause the chassis is more flat (The box is lower).

I had std non- IFS rears in mind.

I'm guessing with the SAS swaps the steering box is left in place, rather than custom mounted. Thanks 4sum4.

I like the idea of this swap now... can't wait 4 pics to return so can see hypo's setup.

ifs rears

Post by Roctoy »

a bit of stuffing around. i did it differently to Ben but i still used 2003 standard ifs rears in the front, dropped the front x member down and welded new factory style shackle mounts under the chasis about 150mm further back from the orignal rear hole through the chasis.
Well worth the extra effort as the front end flexes up really well.

how far is your front diff forward, i was plannin on using a shackle mount under the chassis to get away from using extended shackle, but was also goin to move front hanger forward some to get the diff forward.

also how much lift it give you

Anyone considered shackle reversal, ie putting shakle at front.

Would reduce ride height... also be able to run a short shackle for stability.
