215 / 80 / 16 tyres

I met a bloke the other day with a 92? RB 30 GQ Patrol with the standard wheel pack ( no flairs and 215 / 80 / 16 tyres). He is after new tyres and had quotes at $385 each as they are quite rare he tells me. I recommended that for that sort of money he could get 15x7 '' with new tyres but he would then have to purchase flairs.

I know most people on this forum have most likely upsized their tyres and I would like to steer him towards a better pricing. He resides in the Frankston area.

Even RWC second tyres may assist him.

Any clues.

7.50 X16??

I don't have a tyre & rim manual Handy to check.

He has an odd size that for sure.

For that price he could get a set of sunrasias with 31 X 10.5s to replace them.

I think the original skinny GQ rims were 5.5 width. Correct?

Something like that but the sunrasias were an option at the time. Mine is a DX but has been fitted with a "wide wheel pack" that has the sunrasias & stuff (flares).

If it was an option the usually the rego guys will accept it without an engineers cert.

A 7.50/16 is like a 195/90ish series tyre(maybe a touch taller), it would be close enough for him if he went down that path

They are a different tyre, i had 205's on my rangie and got a set of 215/80/16's to replace them- definitely wider and taller than a 205r16.

Rn he could grab some 245/75/16 silverstone at117 $190.

There nearly an exact copy of the old BFG allterrian patern only seem a little softer compound.

Doesn't really matter, but these tyres are the passenger version of the 205R16. The Pajero and Prado had them, whereas the Hilux and Triton had 205R16. I too had 205R16 on my Rodeo and then switched to 215/80/16 and they were the same diameter. Slightly wider though.

They've provided imperial and metric figures to help users. They're not saying 100km/h=60mph.

If the vehicle has a metric speedo, the speed that was indicated as 100km/h would be indicated as 93km/h with the new tyres.

If the vehicle has an imperial speedo, the speed that was indicated as 60mph would be indicated as 56mph with the new tyres.

I have those tyres on my camper on GQ split rims. The tyre has a 29.5 inch diameter.

The next best fit is a 225X75x16. It has a 29.3 inch diameter and is marginally wider. It will still fit on his cheese cutters and shouldn't stick out from the guards. You can get this tyre in a cooper ATR LT construction
http://www.coopertires.com.au/tyres/atr_specs.htm

A 235X70x16 has a 29 inch diameter (same as 205R16).
a 235x75x16 has a 29.9 inch diameter.
a 245x75x16 has a 30.5 inch diameter and is quite a bit wider.

These sizes are also available.

The big question is - what type of driving does he want to do on his tyres as this may require a size change to get the desired tread pattern?

Not all. Some were 15x7. They look like sunraysia's but have Nissan and the part numbers stamped on them. I know cos I have a set on my Rodeo.

some came with split rims, which i think are 5.5

Some came with 6in sunnys like the Early Navara ones

Other ideas for tires, search ebay for split rims, see what tires are forsale on them.
