40 build up

Post by boy-c »

hey was talking with dad the other day and he made a good point........ and that was that he would like to do a little project with his sons.
what he was thinking was the we get an 40 ute and do a ground up resto on it but jack it up v8 all the things we will need for a very very tough truck, so i though i would ask you guys about a few things.....
righto first how hard is it to but say 80 diffs and coils under it ( keeping in mind that we will be engernering it for the road, and we are in qeensland ) has anyone done this photos or build up storys would be handy, we are looking at going for an LS1 with a cruiser 5 speed in it. twin lockers we want to regerster it with 33's but prob drive it around on 35's with 37 to 40 for play. any way they are just what we got talking about so anyone with any info on build ups or has done this to theres.
it would be great if we can find out what works and what doesn't
2 inch body 2 inch spring 37's high mount winch bar no winch yet 4.6 gears in rear and front 2 limos no lockers

there are 2 40's on 3rdrock4x4.com that have coil conversions using 80 series bits.

You might be hard pressed getting it engineered with coils and even if you do theres nothing to say that DOT will not ping you for running coils.

also if you are going to the trouble getting it engineered why say you'll run with illegal tyre size.. sounds a bit silly imo.

Plenty of info around, you just need to look

i have done this but we went a 60 series chassis.
daz and scotto both have 40s on 3rdrock with 80 series bits.

i dont run an LS1 though, i have a VQ statesman 304. but there are a few photos in the members here.

im pretty sure if you search on here you will find a fair few coiled 40s on 80 diffs.

finding a 40 that isnt too rusty for the right price is a much bigger challenge. lucky theres fibreglass panels.
