Just wondering if anybody has ever tried the HID high beam and Halogen low beam H4's? I'd like to know how good was the low beam and which brand if possible.

I don't expect them to be as good as all HID obviously but it would overcome the legal issue of HID low beams on the road.

CJ, ive done a few in my time, the halogen globe is a bi-pin, there not as good as the all HID versions i do but there ok if thats what you like, theonly issue i have with them is the time it takes from a cold HID high beam when you flick to it

We find on newer model vehicles such as GU patrols that the halogen Low beam is only about 70-80% in brightness as the standard Halogen low beam. In saying that the HID high beam is a massive improvement over the OEM halogen low beam in this particular vehicle.

We have spoken to the manufacturer about this to see if they can up the halogen globe output/improve the quality of the light.

The globes come mounted on one H4 unit which puts the halogen globe out of the focal centre of the lense. This produces a different light shape in something like a 7" round headlight like the sierra's, jeeps and 70 series cruisers have.

This pic is exactly the same as the unit we sell and sort of explains what I am talking about above.

Get decent globes for the factory lights such as Philips Premium or plus 50. HID's are better put to use in decent driving lights.
You can only have HID's on high beam and spotties can only come on with high beam too so why not just put HID's in the spotties?

You can only have HID's on high beam and spotties can only come on with high beam too so why not just put HID's in the spotties?

I currently have candle powered sealed beams and standard wiring. This has led on a quest for better lighting. I need to upgrade the headlights anyway so I am exploring all options from upgrading the loom and using a decent quartz halogen sealed beam or swapping to H4's which will also require a new loom and lights or even going to HID which won't require the loom upgrade but will require the new lights. There will be driving lights as well and they may also get an HID upgrade at some point in time but my first priority is to upgrade the headlights. From what I've since been hearing, going with a halogen low/HID high now won't be my choice but which way to go has still to be determined. This is not a daily driver either, just my toy.

I didn't know HID low beams were illegal, it was my understanding many new cars have them factory fitted? A mate just did an Ultra HID headlight upgrade on his Hilux and the improvement was incredible and we haven't even fitted the HID upgrades into his XGT's yet.

Factory fitted being the key along with self levelling and a cleaning system

Just converting to H4's would be a great improvement then. What size/shape beams are they? I put Narva H4 inserts in my GQ and settled on Phillips Premium 55/65W globes after trying a few others. Much better light than the old sealed beams.
With HID's you'll still need heavy wiring to the ballasts wont you? Each HID ballast draw about 16A during start up but for a few seconds it may not hurt small wiring.

the ballast we sell draw about 8.5 amps on start up for a 35w and about 13amps for a 55w and inmost cases it will last for about 6 second and then drop off to about 3.5 and 4.5 amp if you have a up graded loom it will help but in most cases it not necessary
but if you want a kick ass full hid hi/low I can give you one that look like this

this one has 2 HID globe one for low and when you go to high both globe are on and it is all control by one ballast that give you 70w of HID on high . If you need any help or info just give me a call

HID's can be retrofitted on lowbeam, PRVIDED U have a glare sheild, or, something to give the HID the low beam CUT that is required, as to not blind your on comming traffic.

Have a look at a H4 Bulb and see the little reflector thingy, that gives your low beam light the correct Cut. If your putting HID's in Projector Headlights, then the proector already has the cut built into it. Basically, anything that has a H4 as a low/hi will need some sort of sheild, whereas most cars running a HB4 or a H7/H1 as a low beam will have that sheild.

The H4 lights in my Rodeo (7x5 rectangle IKI's) already have a shield built into the actual insert positioned right in front of the globe. I was told by an auto elec that they are there to reflect light from the front of the globe back on to the reflector.
I have heard too that HID's can legally be fitted to headlights but only if they have shields in the inserts and there is no period of darkness while switching between beams.

How much is your HID headlight kit on4tuo?

we have that globe with a glare sheild on it the cost of the kit is about $575 for 35w low and 70w high
