Hi, I did try to search this subject but kept getting a 'no match' result.

OK, I may have the choice of two LC 80's, one is a uk spec RHD VX with leccy everything and standard diff locks. The other is a Spanish spec LHD version, it is not a VX and I am damned if I can recall the letters.

Anyway the spanish spec is not a touch on the UK version, there are no diff locks, leather ect ect.

I know I can bring the UK one to Spain where I live and pay about a 1000 euros to get it put on to spanish plates, oooooooorrrrr buy the spanish spec and fit ARB air lockers which will be about the same money.

Which are the stronger, any ideas?

what do you think?

TIA

regards

Dave

The arb's are probably stronger. Based on the fact most competition trucks use them and rarely if ever break them. Having said that I will still go the UK truck for the leather and other gadgets. Factory lockers are nothing to sneeze at. Never heard/read of one breaking. Although make sure the lockers actually work. If they are rarely, or never used they can sieze up, and are not always a cheap fix.

Factory lockers use a special long spline axle shaft, if one breaks it might be harder to find a replacement than it would an ordinary axle shaft.
If the engagement motor fails they can be manually operated.
If the air line on an ARB fails it can be repaired on the trail and be back in operation in minutes.
Have a look on http://forum.ih8mud.com/ for lots of reading regarding both types of lockers.

Look past the lockers to the other creature comforts...climate air...better headlights...on the negitive, is the english one diesel because they r 24 volt and 2 batteries...do they still throw salt on the roads over there to melt the snow and rust your limo??
