Outer Limits 4x4 Board

I have a bad grinding noise coming from my brakes when braking. Braking works fine and was hoping it was the brakes so I changed them last night and continues to make noise. Old pads were only about half way worn down and looked fine. We did notice however the the disc rotor is worn in about 2-3mm so it has a lip around the edge. Could this cause the grinding noise when braking?

I had a similar thing on my GQ. There is a bolt and a pin that hold the callipers to the diff housing. Undo the bolt, rotate callipers off rotors to change pads. callipers swivel on the pin.

On mine, the pin broke and fell out. (mechanic said he had never seen it happen)

When I applied the brakes, the callipers would push out (still held by the bolt) and rub on the inside of the rim, hence grinding noise. Was a relatively easy fix.

When driving, it sounded like it was coming from the front, driver's side. Was actually the rear passenger side that was causing the noise.

mm sorry to steal your thread, but i have a knocking noise, only audiable at low speeds, and dissapears once the brakes are applied, then once i take my foot off the brake it comes back, i have looked for ages to find it, but i cant, has any one else come across it, oh and when i say low speeds i mean around 10k's

Yer the sound is coming from the wheels. While we were changing the pads we had the car jacked up and the bearings seemed fine. Noise only happens when braking.

So is it worth getting the rotors ground down or should I just get new rotors put on?

I rang a place to have the car booked in for them to have a look at it and they have told me that to machine mine (twin piston caliper) they need to remove the entire rotor etc and are saying around $200 to be machined. Does this sound expensive?

not too bad, how ever you can get new rotors for 110, then fit them yourself?
