g'day, after being dicked around buy people wanting pics and then never getting back to me about buying the darn thing ive decided to go v8, as the sole reason i wanted it gone was because it was too slow. here are the specs of what i want to do:
holden 304 v8
hilux surf r151 box
marks adaptors bellhousing and clutch kit
isuzu mu unleaded petrol tank
lengh adjusted tailshaft and front shaft
i need to know a few things before i can go out nd start buying the stuff. does anyone make 304 v8 engine mounts for mu's, rodeo's or jacks's?
diff: anyone know how strong these mu diffs are? if there soft are there alternatives?
and also is anyone aware of any front brake upgrades? i highly doubt anyone makes anything for the mu so im going to have to go missmatching parts to see what fits. this could turn out to be a very long and expensive process so i just want to find out if anyone has already gone down this road. i already know that a 08 rodeo booster and master cylinder works very nicley in the mu.
cheers
jono

Have you looked at the Jackaroo Brakes? They seem pretty decent and they may well fit.

Holden slotted a 5.7lt into a Jack once as a bit of a promo thing, was called The Jack 8. The chev block is narrower and fits better than Holden V8's.
They have also been shoe horned into Rodeo's for off road racing. The MU engine bay is no different really.
Do you really need a V8 to get an MU up and going

thanks for the info mate, do you know where i can read up on this jack8 build?...
the plan for the mu is to make it fast on the road, but also still fairly good offroad. im raising the rear again with some extended shackles, and fitting 33" x 12.5" r15's and on the front remain the 32"x11.5" r15s and i want to widen the diff, maybe just get a wider diff off another 4wd so the rear track is wider than the front buy about 1 inch, lots of negative camber on the front. fit bigger brakes on the front, use a hilux r151 box and transfer case (which raises another possible problem, which side the transfer spins. i know the new hilux's transfer has the axel on the passenger side which is opposite to the mu.) , marks 4x4 v8 adaptor, clutch kit. mu petrol tank and a v8. 5 litre possibly, or 5.7 which ever ones going to be easiest to squeeze in .
nothing substitutes the badassness of the v8

Jackaroo's from 1992 on have slightly bigger brakes than yours.
Yours are the same as the Jackaroo UBS17 front 257mm rear 265mm
The UBS25 Jack has front 280mm rear 313mm
http://www.dba.com.au/product_search_dev.php
They do slotted ones as well, but I wouldn't bother with drilled as they will only fill with mud.
Jackaroo petrol tank is the same a the MU's tank 83 litres, but I was not able to find out if they have a submersed fuel pump in them or not.

Are you going to run different ratios on the front and back to allow for the different tyre sizes? How do you hope to get the -ive camber on the front? New pitman arms?

do yo think theyd be substantial enough for the v8? also im running 15 inch sunraisers, will the brakes fit inside them?

i dont really know yet, all i know is i need the track a bit wider ( i was thinking just wheel spacers) and then just adjusting the castors out a bit more or sumthing, i dont want a drift spec mu lol but enough to keep the front from sliding out when i take roundabouts in the rain, atm the handaling in the wet is shoking, anymore than about 25 km/h around a corner and im sliding.
also i go hold of holden and they are not allowed to release any information or anyhing relating to the v8 jack build. rooster wranglers.

I just found sumthing interesting, an isuzu TFR (looks like a rodeo) in thailand with a 1uz-fe, and a crazy looking lift on IFS. full pics and writeup, in Thai!!!
http://www.weekendhobby.com/offroad/Isu ... =4&id=8375
that is still IFS, howd they get so much lift?

Lift done with this type of stuff
http://www.weekendhobby.com/ad/sun.htm
Not sure on brakes power. I found my brakes on my MU to be really good (2.8), it's just a matter of having them working properly. The 15's will fit but it depends on what offset you have, (have seen it done all the 3.1 MU's have the Jackaroo sized bigger brakes and I have seen them with 15's on em).
The TFR is a rodeo here, that one in the pic is only 2wd by the looks of it and the 1UZ is a big sized motor, can just be squeezed in.
If you still want to use yours for 4wding you will need to run the same tyre diameter or you will get transmission bind up, which leads to broken parts.

how does the ifs lift kit perform? or have you ever seen one?

All the IFS lifts like that just drop everything down as in the diff gets spaced down 4-5 inches and the Lower A-arm and the torsion bars, shocks... So it should be like driving the same car with maybe 100kg on the roof racks...
I think skyjacker do a similar kit for the hilux 4in or so..

lol mmk, probably best to leave it where it is then. i took some measurments of the engine bay of the mu, its a pinner. the area i have to work with is about 720mm x 715mm inside the wheel arches, gonna be tight.
also took measurments of the mu 5 speed, tomorow i will have pics and a comparisson, so we will see how hard it will be to fit an r151 into a mu.
i have a feeling the r151 is alot bigger
on another note, with the biger wheel on the back, wouldnt i be able to change the diff ratio to suit the larger wheel. or is there no such diff center in existance?
cheers

There is most likley no diff ratio to allow for this. In all honesty running a 33 on the back and a 32 on the front is not a good idea. I think you have to have matching overall rolling diamiters front to rear for road worthyness as well. So basically, no you cant run differnt diamiter tyres front to rear.
To the guy wondering about the camber, pitman arms are the arms that run from the steering box sector shaft to the drag link. They have nothing to do with camber.
Layto....
