HILUX FRONT DIFF, WHAT AM I?

My friend has a 93 Model 4X4 hilux (RN110 if this helps)
front IFS, 22R motor.
When he purchased the car he was told the diff was out of a landcruiser?
he has informed me that the ratio seems to be around 4.75 so i would assume 4.88:1 would be it.
at the moment the pinion is able to move up/down/in/out which cant be good
any ideas of what the centre could be from, or is it standard?

93 ifs from a landcruiser?, landcruisers arent ifs. therefore there centres are not interchangeable
4.3, 4.55, 4.88 are the common ratios from a hilux.
The pinion bearing is probably almost worn out, id replace it before it causes more dramas.

Unless it's had a SAS (Solid Axle Swap), No.
Some people will say anything to try to get a sale
If it's been like this for a while the C&P gears may have been damaged too.
AFAIK all the IFS front diffs are 7.5" C&P and are the same (except for ratios), so find out what ratio you have and find another one from the wreckers (cheapest) or get yours rebuilt if your going to hang on to it.
A few years ago I bought a complete front IFS diff (4.88) without CV's in perfect condition for $300, a professional rebuild will cost a bit more especially if the gears need replacing.

Prado's have an 8" ifs center.
I looked into putting one in my surf. It would have gone very close.

Sorry, should have said Hilux IFS front diffs.
Thanks Stumpy, didn't know the later Prado's run a 8" front.

I know the initial enquiry was for an older model but thought I'd clarify this.
Prado diffs went to 8" from 09/02 on. The 8" diffs are compatible with the 2005-2009 Hilux. However to fit the 8" Prado front diff to the Hilux, you need to also change the fornt diff carrier for ratios of 3.909 and up.
You can save the $360 for the front carrier by installing a front ARB Prado Air Locker which comes with its own carrier.
