Opinions on 3 Hiluxs

Hello,
I was just wondering what people thoughts are on these three Hiluxs and which should I go for?
#1 - Gen 2 (Not sure the exact year model) 2.4 deisel, 5 speed, 31's, Alloy tray, Average interior, White with a yellow bonnet. Overall good condition. Pretty standard. Requires blue slip. $1500
#2 - Gen 2 1985, Has had a 2.8 Diesel put in it, Looks to standard height, Rancho 5000's under it, Been sitting in the paddock for a little while so everything will need going over, Alloy tray, Bodys a bit rough Will require a new paint job. And a good clean up. Requires blue slip. $1000 firm
#3- Gen 2 (Not sure the exact year model) Rb30 engine, Has got a lift, Tough dog steering dampner, After market shocks (not sure the exact ones they will either be tough dogs or ranchos), 31's, Fairly good overall condition, Comes with a spare motor, Only just ran out of rego, Bull bar and the radiator on the tray with thermo fans. Only problem that I was told is that when the fella drove it home it ran a little bit hot, He didn't check the water or anything so it could be anything from no water to the termestate. $1500
I think I'll steer clear of the 2.4 as I've been told there pretty gutless.
I'm kinda tossing up between the 2.8 and the rb30.
What do you guys think?

as tempting as option 3 is I think i would stay clear.
does it have engineering for the engine swap? if not expect to spend $ before you can register it. parts are cheap for rb 30's but sometimes engine swaps never quite get the cooling system right. if there was no water then it would not usually read hot, as there is no water for it to read
the rb30 i had in a lux had a commo turbo rad with twin thermos and never ran hot.
I think option 2 would be my choice. but again check to see if you need eng for the engine swap.
can you take it for a bluey before you buy? as they will probably give you a list of jobs before rego and could effect you decision to buy.

They all sound like trouble to me, Ones had a prang in the front, ones been sitting in a paddock for ages and the others had a engine conversion!
But you can't really tell what a car's like from a forum, espcially without pictures.

Well I'm not sure if it's got the engineers cert or not, But it's all properly done so I doubt that it would be very hard to get it engineered?
You wouldn't have a rough estimate on what the engineer cert would cost for the engine conversion?
The one reason im weary on the rb30 is, Is that I like to go through water =p.
I think I might be able to knock him down a little bit on the price if it doesn't have the engineer cert?
But the etc power would push bigger wheels nice, And it wouldn't be hard to put a turbo on it once I'm off my p's.
I'm going to have 5 g's to spend, I would rather kinda buy something stock ish and build it my self, (Get flexy etc).
But the one with the rb30 has got abit of a lift and stuff so that would most likely benifit me in the long run.
But in the same token the 2.8 would be nice for the fact I can go through water haha.
The fact I have to spend a little bit of money on something I'd prefer that in the long run because I know what it's had replaced etc.
It's a hard decision haha.

Hey im not to sure what the laws for P's are down there but if they are the same as queensland option 1 is the only one you could drive till you are off your p's. Double check with the authorities before you make your decision

Nah I can drive them all.
At the moment I have a turbo Pajero. and it's 110% legal. =)

but at least with a 5k budget you can buy all 3 and have spares
.
Personally i would keep looking you can get a decent rig for under 5k, or a decent stocker for a couple of grand.
anything your buy for 1000-1500 is likely to be a pos pia regret.
but gems do come by if your not in a rush.

number two sounds like the better one to me but in saying that i dont think my 2.8 is any better a motor than mates 2.4s and especially not my old 2.4 turbo
If you can though id buy something for a little more money that goes and is regoed,save yourself the trouble and enjoy driving it.
Don't know what the rb30 would be like,couldnt be too bad i guess if it is legal.??

Yeah, I'm thinking of just getting a Pootrol like I originally wanted lol.
