Outer Limits 4x4 Board

I seem to be braking a lot of steering couplings, (the rubber part) some times call the rag joint, does anybody know of a heavy duty one or quality after market, as it could be the second hand ones I have been fitting are just about stuffed and fail when used hard. cheers.

they dont break that often unless they get covered in power steer fluid....is your car body lifted an if it is was the shaft released to suit?

Yeh body lift has been in for a few years now, coupling was replaced not long back with a second hand unit, It broke again when the engine was off and trying to turn with no power assist, there was lots of load on it so understandable for it to fail but I am looking for something stronger, or new after market,

as nutter said it sounds like the hub/coupling needs to be moved further down the spline of the steering shaft.

btw, i've tried to get an aftermarket rubber coupling but have had no luck. even tried a genuine one from nissan but they want to sell you a whole new hub & coupling assembly for some ridiculous amount of money.

if anyone knows where to get the rubber bit from i'd like to knoe too. i thought about making one up from some conveyor belt type rubber. anyone done this?

You really don't need to its not the problem, first find it then fix it don't just make it stronger, steering with power steer off does nothing short term.

tried to find after market coupling six months ago and ended up getting second hand factory was the only answer, or nolathane red but hate that stuff
