i was just wondering if anyone has done or looked into putting the BA/BF falcon turbo motor into a GQ or otherwise.
I know the holden v8 and LS1/2 have been done plenty of times but the turbo donk out of the falcon is a ripper motor and cheap to get bulk power out of.
Just wondering if its been done or anyone lookin at it

Has been suggested a few times, not sure anyone has actually done it.

My guess is the engines may be too dear at the moment or the conversion or maybe its just easoer to plonk an LS1 in.

i would of thought an old xr6 turbo motor would be cheap by now, i spose it comes down to available aftermarket parts like bellhousings and engine mounts etc.
would be an awesome conv but

Dellow does a conversion kit.

The hard part is getting the standard wiring to work without all the security business. You would need to run the electronic throttle pedal.

Because of the dual VCT it is a complicated motor for an aftermarket ECU to run. The stock ECU is the best bet.

A mob in belgrave will wire up and get the factory ECU running in an EB falcon for $2700 so they might be able to help.

Even a non turbo motor would go pretty well at 180kw. They can be bought for under $1k too.

im not talking about for my conversion, just asking.
ive got a turbo td42 and its plenty good for me, i was just wondering :p
there is no reason you cant use the original computer but, they are more than happy to accept mods.
Would sort of be the same situation as the turbo'd RB30 motors, huge power available in a large square piece of metal :P

The other thing that might be an issue is that the ford engine is a front sump setup whereas the patrol is a rear sump.

The dellow site doesnt mention anything about it though.

Power is good. I just put a turbo on my TB42 and am loving it.

as with anything to do with cars...........
anything is possible as long as you have enough money!
would be cool for someone to have a 300+rwkw patrol but !!!

You could always just stick an RB26dett head, computer and everything else onto a RB30 bottom end, using the RB30 patrol mounts, bellhousing ETC.

That would make a reliable 300kw at the engine, with some better turbos, you can see 400 quite easily.

the computer lock is the problem (not sure if it could be by passed with an aftermarket computer), as i looked into putting one into a swb 40 series. Ray185 would be the one to talk to..

the computers from the ba/bf ford engines control alot of other stuff as well. Even the radio runs through it. Thats why its difficult

I like Dellows gear but with all of the conversion set-ups, you get what's on the list and for other things you need to sort out, you're just about on your own.

I understand the computers are an issue but I am pretty sure there are a few places that can disable all the unnecessary bits now.

as far as i knew, they have only unlocked the EA falcon computers, and no where near the BF/BA/AU computers

this was the reason why i didnt bother

its cheapers and easier to go 1uzfe and then supercharge that

It would be interesting off road. As soon as you hit boost going up a hill you would just have wheel spin. I wouldn't think it would be as nice low torque as a V8 or diesel.

It is definitely sorted now.

I know of 2 EB falcons with a BA engine running the BA ECU.

One of them sells kits for the conversion including the flash tuned ECU.

XR6 turbo great engine to make big power with.
Make sure to use a BF or BFII engine even better they have stronger rods
BA rods have a habit of falling out the side of the block with about 14psi boost only about 300RWKW.
BFII will take 16,17psi easy 350RWKW+++
Cost about 6g to build strong bottom end like atomic rated to 500kw.

The other problem is the turbo and exaust is on the right side in the xr6t
and the patrol turbo is the left there not that much room under the right side of the foorpan in the patrol.
For the ECM you can aftermaket been done befor.
Check out http://www.fordxr6turbo.com/forum/
for any XR6T info you need

a mate just got 257 rwkw on 10psi out of an au engine with a turbo ran 238 for about a year no probs yet.He still is going to boost it to 15psi tho the engine was cheap to buiy in the first place

i thought of doing it.. seems like a good conversion also the engine is fairly torquey
