g'day all

i fianally got the money for my new 4wd it's a 1997 duel cab with new winch new a/t's new bull bar 12 months rego 2 ldriving lights rear bar new paint all for 6500 which i think is pritty bloody good it's been serviced every 5000 and lloks and runs beautifully.

i can't wait to hit some of the local tracks and see how she goes as is

i'm going to drive it for a while first to get used to her and see what it needs.

i dare say i'll add a s/s snorkel and possibley a suspension lift kit maybe 2-3 inches all depends on money as usuall.

mods that will come with time
33 m/t
maybe custom tray
scrub bars and sliders
bigger lift
inverted shock
x over streeing
oon board air

but all these mods will hopefully be done over the next 2 years or so as i'm only a first year diesle mechanic and the pay isn't that great haha

anyway thought i'd let you all know whats goin on and i look forward to posting lots and hopefully goin wheeling with a few of u blokes.

cheers mike

Save this link as an idea if you ever decide on turbo'n this as if you are on a budget this is a cheap turbo kit that you will be able to install.

http://bjblaster.homedns.org/projects/a ... index.html

Just if you do it or comtemplate it dont use copper and hydraulic hose for the turbo pipes.... Jst thought you would like to keep it in mind.

sounds good. It'll be intersting to see how you go with it

i'd do
snorkel
lockers (air are the bomb)
and then the tires

and then the rest.

good luck

snorkie for sure- Lux's draw from behind the passenger headlight and its REALLY not hard to accidently drown one.

I went thru a river that was about bottom of bumper height and got a wet air filter!

meh, there are lots of things to do to a lux without going down the locker route to early on.

learn to drive it stock, learn its deficiencies and yours ;) then learn to drive better lines and you will find your getting up things you couldnt before.

then look at your flex - if your wheels are both on the ground then the locker is less of a need (and yes i did say less) a little work on the suspension and you go a whole lot further.

Then look at your tyres (take this into account when doing your suspension so you dont do it twice) do you want 31's 33's or bigger? a decent set of tyres and some better suspension and a hilux is far far more capable.

then when tyres and suspension improvements along with what you have learnt arent enough then go lockers as now you can re gear your diffs at the same time to accomodate your bigger tyres - saves doing diffs twice. but yeah they make a big difference.

You will notice a huge difference with good tyres and aftermarket lift to allow a bit more flex....

But as said snorkel first....

Depends on the sort of tracks you want to drive... Like most people you think ill only buy this, as a result you need that... then so on so forth and you have spent alot more then you set out to spend.... ;)

All good if you use and enjoy it- :D
