Hey mate i've got 3" flexy coils in my GU wagon LWB with 6 to 7" boss adjustable shocks. Big flex but the coils still dont drop out.
In my opinion well worth the money, shane from suspension stuff is an awesome guy to deal with and will point you in the right direction.
Cheers

just sold him a set of 5in coils to stop bottemin out, but i runnin standard 3in springs with coil drop outs and 80series bumpstops and 7in shocks... hehe flex and no loss of coils if great... lower is better

would u b able 2 show me a pic of the coil drop out as im not absolutely sure sure how they work i only no they let the coil drop away from the coil struts and y do u run 80series bumstops do they give u more flex or sumthin im new to coil springs so dont no a hole lot i only hav a leaf sprung luxy lol.

83-mud-lux wrote: 80series bumstops .
When running longer shocks you need the extend you bump stops to stop your shocks from bottoming out. 80 serier bump stops are about 20mm longer.
Flexy wrote:We have put both (gen Nissan front & cruiser rear) bump stops in to a press. The cruiser bump stops are a lot more progressive, but only 20mm longer then Nissan when compressed. the only problem with the cruise bstops is you can't fit coil spacers as the OD of the bstop is larger than the ID of the of the coil spacers
If you are going to buy bump stops I would get a set of part no.5899 from pedders as they are the same as cruiser bump stops except they have a smaller OD and can be used with coil spaces.
Even if you don't need coil spaces ATM you may as well set it up so you can in the future if you need.

shane from suspension stuff is the go for sure, very easy to deal with and very reasonable price with great gear.
the flexi coils work great imo.
as for extending the bump stop thingo to match the shock so it does not bottom out on compression, yes this works but why don't you lot just buy longer shocks with less compression (measurements wise) and do it right the first time.?
cheers mark.

3 inch flexi coils are great for stopping coils dropping out on full flex but are too soft for 4wding imo.
Firstly, if you hit something too hard or too quickly they compress too quickly and the front end smashes up into the bump stops.
Secondly, the back end sags too much when towing.
Thirdly, if you get the heavier duty coils, they raise the truck too high - over 4 inches.
And last, they sag over an inch after only 6 months.

Coils just stay in (just) with no retainers. My back tyre sits easily lower than my side step, thats with 33's on. Can't wait to put the 5" coils in.(Thanks to shw337)
I've got retainers to put in, just haven't been bothered. Theres something still holding me up, i just need my car back to figure out wat it is holding on and then there should be a little more flex left in it hopefully.

I have flexy coils from Shane in my GU and I'm very happy with them.
Had them for over 6 mths now and can't complain.
Great flex and drivability.
They did turn out a fair bit higher then expected but in the end I was very happy with that and if they do sag, I'll end up with the hight I ordered anyway

G'Day, Shane from Suspension Stuff here.
I have recently re designed the 3" lift flexy coils. The normal duty rear flexy coils use to be made out of 19mm wire. I now get them made out of 20mm wire so they should take the load much better then the old designs. (21mm wire for the extra heavy duty coil). I also have designed these coils to be a little softer because I wanted these coils to suit a 750mm shock.
Suspension Stuff Flexy coils do have a 12 month warranty against sag even for a 6" lift. So if you don't like them we can swap them over for a linear coil. Call me 1300 048 991. I will increase the warranty length when I start my own branding.
As for smashing on the bump stops, probably not, you were most probably smashing onto the shocks unless you had modified your bump stops. It is the same deal for normal 3" lift shocks. I actually do not have flexy coils for the front but I do offer a softer coil for those who want them but not something I really recommend, so if you are hitting up front it may not be the coils. What shocks do you have?
If the coil doesn't take as much load it is not because it is a flexy coil but because of the design modifications I have done with the coil. The flexy part of the coil is just about fully closed together so don't take much part in day to day driving. The coil can carry as much load as a linear coil and will drop the same given the same loads put onto the coil.
To suggest to not get flexy coils but to get Tough Dogs or Kings is a silly statement if you know how many sag issues their coils have. If you don't want flexy coils get the usual linear Dobinsons coils. Dobinsons do have a better manufacturing proces for coils.

thx shane u hav answered my question lol,
wil be buyin some flexy coils off ya when i buy my shorty which will b soon.
as for loads and stuff like that im not going to be carrying much weight anyway except for the odd camping gear only problem i it will b driven everyday but im sure i can get used to it and it wont make a huge difference would it?
now could sum1 explain to me how a coil drop out works as im not sure how they work and might b a stupid question but do u buy them or make them and are they a good investment..
i only no that they let the coil drop away from the strut which means better flex but hav no clue wat they look like.thx for the help fellas.

Have a look on Shane from suspension stuffs website there is a pic of a drop out cone. These are a weld in item and it allows you to run longer shocks so the coils can drop out and relocate themselves but you will need coil retainers on the bootom of your coils which Shane can also supply.

I run drop out cones in my gu with 4 inch flexy coils.

with the drop out cones are they noisey when the coils drop. I have 3" coils + 1" spacer and need new shocks so thinking of going this option with longer shocks

Yeah you can hear the coils when they drop out and relocate but it is not that bad. But then again it may annoy some people but i am very happy with the combination !!

does that extra flex actually get you any further though?
i mean, your front moves no better than stock. kind of defies the point of upgrading the suspension if you only focus on the rear. may as well get an IFS vehicle and have the same articulation but more comfort.
not trying to offend you just puting it up for discussion

Good point Yom. Also Shane, why aren't there flexy coils for the front? Wouldn't they be a good match for the flex arm? Or am I jumping the gun and you have things in the pipeline?

I am running the 4 inch flexy coils in the front of the gu with superior flex arms so the front moves much better than stock. So I can say i get much further as can keep the wheels on the ground.

Someone was telling me that dobinsons werent that good and most of the time you ended up with a 4b with different heights at all four corners requiring coil spacers to even things up. What are your thoughts on this? I suspect the guy was just trying to sell me efs, but ive herd of them sagging after a couple of months as well.

I had 2 sets of dobinsons and yes spacers were required to level it up both times. Terrible ride on road and I had just had enough of them. I ended up buying some megalift coils and its the best money I have spent. I have 4" lift and it rides really well, flexes awesome and it also holds a load really well too. A mate of mine has had 7" megalift coils and in 5 years they have not sagged at all and he tows big loads like car trailers and the like with no drama.

What stops the front from flexing isn't your coils but rather the castor bushes so unless you address the castor bushes problem then there is no point running a flexy coil up front.
I have found that customers who purchase the rubber castor correction bushes and 3" flexy coils in the rear out flex a 5" lift by about a foot up the ramp.
I have flex bushes for the front that you run with drop boxes to get even more front flex. I put a 2 year warranty on these bushes.
I can say with confidence that if you build a Dobinsons coils and a Megalift coil (or kings or EFS or Tough Dog) with the same specs that the Dobinsons coil will last longer however if you have heavier duty coils then they will naturally last longer. Dobinsons do have a better manufacturing process. Every day I hear of all the other brands sagging for 3" lift and up coils.

iv have had efs 3 inch coils and trek master 4-5 inch coils and they were the biggest pieces of shit iv ever had. they both sagged very quickly and very unevenly. i now have 4 inch flexy coils front and rear with super flex arms and both the coils and arms are excellent. the coils have held there height well and the car is driven hard off road. flexy coils are the go.

i didn't noticed any extra flex, the only advantage is the coils dont fall out as easy.

Haha, you won't notice any more flex if you don't get longer shocks.
