Hi I have a problem with my front drivers brake disc. When I apply the brakes I get a Tick sound and when I take my foot off the brakes I get a Tick sound. When I first heard it I thought it was maybe the wheel bearings, but i replaced them and it is still there. Everything looks fine what could it be?

Hilux 1984 model

is it a tick or a bit of a knock sound my brothers had a knock sound when first braking and then when took foot off we tracked it down to be the draglink the thing from your steering box to the diff moving around under load

It is more of a Tick sound like a little stone in a tyre tick. But only happens once when brakes go on and once when brakes come off.

Sounds like you are missing an anti-rattle clip. Cant remember what the 85 lux caliper clip looks like but if you can get a shot with the wheel off looking into the caliper in the direction the pads go in I can explain better.

Your spot on ray my cruisers got a similar noise its an anitrattle spring .
They are usualy eather a spring that sits under the pad or a small metal plate that the tips of the pad sit on.
More than lickly your only missing one or both on one side
in anycase pulling the other side of slowly as not to lose them as well
will show what your missing

They have a plate that holds onto the pad retaining pins to stop them rattling as well.

Here's a pic I found on the net. I've labeled the 2 clips/springs A and B. This is the most common setup for early cruiser and hilux. The other type has a bent plate that goes over 1 pin and under the other beween the pads.

If this is your type, it sounds to me that you are missing spring A that clips into the hole in the caliper at the middle and each end goes through the hole in the end of the pin. The ticking sounds you are hearing will be the pin jumping in the caliper hole every time you touch the brakes due to the pin not being retained by the missing spring.
