i have just done a gu turbo 4.2 intercooled motor in to a custom ute and i have put a gq auto behind that........ big job for me because crank is bigger in turbo gu, had to make a custom flex plate.....

i can sell you a complete conversion, you will have to do a harness change over to.......

Same drama i had, i had an engineer make up a new front and rear flanges the same bolt circle as the gu crank then they slotted the holes out in the gq flex plate, made the dowell go the whole way through the lot and the rear spacer that goes between the crank adn flex plate has a nice big spigot for the flex plate and outer spacer to slip over and locate the whole lot, works a treat, will never move and saved trying to make a whole new flex plate

I have just done the same to a 2005 4.2 turbo gu. You need to know the diameter of the crank ( two sizes i believe ) i went to wholesale auto's in bayswater vic and he was able to get from Japan genuine flex plate, rear and front spacer and crank bolts. It was then a simple case of bolting everything up, the only thing that is custom is oil cooler

my biggest drama is the computer controlling it all, shift patten all wrong so have just ordered a fully programable TCU from the states which will let me fully customise shift patten, line pressure, torque convert lock up and to many other things to maintion

gu auto's where only releaseed in one country and that is Japan. The way nissan australia's licence with nissan japan works is this, nissan aust is only aloud to sell parts for vehicles which nissan aust sells. so if you walk into a nissan dealer and ask for a flex plate off a 2005 auto 4.2 diesel the answer will be " it does not exist". that is because there computer only shows parts for aust deliveried vehicles.

If you want to get parts for grey imports you need to go to someone who has the licence with nissan japan. thats how wholesale auto's got me a genuine flex plate for 4.2td his supplier can see any part for any niissn world wide

If you call Rodney at wholesale automatics he should have a flex plate that will fit the smaller diameter crank. I should know because it is mine, he tring to sell it for me. i brought it not knowing that my crank was the larger diameter until manual box was removed.

price for the flex plate, front and rear spacers and seven crank bolts was about $1100, that includes wholesale auto's cut. you could properly get it cheaper if you went straight to the importer. not cheap but no fab or modification required just bolt up and of you go.

the asking price for the gq flex is $300, it brand new. i got it as a special import from a local nissan dealer and nissan do not refund any parts which are special, hence i am stuck with it

http://www.powertraincontrolsolutions.com/

thats the link for the programable tcu. i ordered it today through the australian importer for $1525 and that includes a wiring loom that just plugs straight into the factory loom i already have. It comes preprogramed to control the auto, then all i have to do is play with the shift pattens, line pressure etc

What about Rodneys manual valve body! Cheaper than that /\ /\ and works really really well. Does make it a semi auto which is best of both worlds IMO.
