Outer Limits 4x4 Board

for a while now (it happened before but fixed itself somehow )
ive had a problem reving past 3000rpm...

from idle to 3000 its fine but just as it reaches 3000 it sort of struggles and then comes good again after 3100 up until redline/limiter

but lately after 3100 is seems to have less power than it used to and still struggles a little bit intermittantly.

i havnt been driving much for the last few months but now with the colder weather im driving more so the problem annoys me more and i need to figure out what it is and fix it.
it becomes a real PITA when towing something heavy and holding 110kph up hills on the freeway etc.. as 3000rpm in 5th is 120 and when i drop back to 4th around the same rpm i loose power and end up doing 70-80k


ive changed all the plugs, checked the leads and they are all ok, changed the fuel filter, cleaned the air filter (K&N) regularily use injector cleaner in the tank, done the timing (and then sent my timing light for a ride with tht clutch fan about an hour ago ) reset the computer numerous times (disconnect the battery)




anyone got any ideas? anything else i should check?

do your valve clearances. That can help it breath and also can alter cam timing slightly if there is a too large of a gap.

would that affect it at a certain rev range but??
to me it seems like and "electrical" issue (sensors,timing,plugs, computer or anything else )

AFAIK ive got no problem with fuel and air so that only leaves spark...

I recently had the same problem with my tb45, it was very bad while on gas, i had a diagnostic test done and found a knock sensor error was displayed on the machine, after re setting the error code it was like i was driving a new car. I can only guess i must have been driving with this sensor not working for about a year. Also i found adjusting the valve clearances to 0.20mm while cold made a huge difference to performance to. Hope this helps.

how did you reset the error code?

I went halvies with a mate in a diagnostic hand held device we bought off ebay, it cost about $300, he was having trouble with his tb48 (later model). I pluged it into my gu to see if it would work on the older model and it come up with the knock sensor code that i was un aware of. This devise also can reset any engine management system or transmission or air bag or abs management computers just by pressing a couple of buttons. It will tell you what is wrong with just about any Japanese or Eropean car after 1994, and is very detailed with live data feeds when used on late model cars with OBD2 diegnostic compliance. http://www.theobd2shop.com.au

where do you plug it in but? i didnt think the TB45 had any plugs for testing.



i also noticed that this morning when i started the car just to move it out of the driveway (turn key and drive rather than letting it warm up as usual) it almost stalled when i let the clutch out and tried to drive it out the driveway.

clutch in, rev it a bit and its fine again

when did it last have a tune and service?

There is a grey colour plug for diagnostic testing down low under the steering columb near to where your knees would be.. I always warm up my gu before drivig, it's an auto so it doesn't stall but does run like crap if it's not idled for 2 mins prior to driving away.

i got the injectors cleaned and finally put them back in.. and there is a noticable increase in power.. the problem is still there but not as noticable..

its hard when i dont drive it daily
