wanting to know what the go is.
I have to cut about 20mm x 50mm out of the side of the hole for gearstick hole on transmission tunnel for some clearance on the bracket for an auto.
Is this an ok thing to do or should i speak with an engineer about something this minor? Yes i know how minor it is but dont want to be screwed over if a tight roadworthy bloke ever checked it over if i ever sold it. or if i ever get defected (trying to do the right thing by the law but sometimes you just cant win)
cheers
Jack

do you need to cut it, or can it be re-shaped?
im guessing you wanna cut it so you dont have to remove the gear,
its only a small section, if you cut it out, welded in a replacement section and called it a rust repair youd prob get away with it, rather than calling it a modification,

its more so cutting the 20mm x50mm notch out of the actual hole where the gearsticks come through, as the new shifter for the auto has a shifter bracket which will require widening of the hole to a degree.
I guess if i make it clean and no sharp edges with as minimal cutting as possible it shouldnt matter to much. maybe keep the off cut incase someone ever gets grumpy about it

if your goin to flap it then use the 1mm cutting wheel too, if your goint to snip it then file finish the hole.

I can cut very neatly witha descent pair of snips. Will still need to be filed though as it will be very sharp.

I just cut the whole fire wall, half the wiper area, and the entire trans tunnel out of my little bro's drift weapon. Its registered and will be approved.
