Outer Limits 4x4 Board

HI Guys,

Im setting myself up to wire in the switches etc for the lockers, ive decided to have the switches in the center console right beside the seat, but not sure where to put the diff lock solenoids and box?

The car i pulled it out of had them on the rear wall between the seats at shoulder level, but i dont want it there. im also concerned that if its behind the seats the gf or i might accidentally rip out a wire or air tube getting stuff from behind the seats.

so im a little perplexed. im assuming they need to stay dry as well so they have to be in the cab? is this correct?

Where do you have yours? pics would be great.

Mine are mounted on the compressor behind the drivers seat on the floor.

Have flooded the car a couple times and they have been fine.

Can get pics tomorrow if you want

That would be ace.

I will have an endless air style set up if i get it working so no compressor inside.

I think whilst under the seat would be hard to get to if needed, it will be well protected.

Its behind the seat, against the rear of the cab.

Have you thought about in the glove box or something?

yeah though about the glovebox, but i use it to much. mainly for crap but crap needs to go somewhere

at the moment the speakers are behind the seats, but eventually these will go in the doors. but the purpose of that is to have some space behind the seats as we end up putting gear there when we go away, which is why im worried about damaging it if its behind the seat.

If you mount the solenoids inside get the fittings that go into the exhaust port and recive the blue line so you can plumb it to outside if they throw some oil you won't have the smell in your cab.

When you switch the locker off the air escapes from the exhaust port on the solenoid when you get the solenoid there is just a small mesh filter in there, what you can do is go to arb of local 4x4 store and get a fitting that screws into this which is like the one that goes on your soleniod that accepts the line that goes to the actual locker, but has a smaller thread for the exhaust port. i'll try go out to mates palce today and get a pic of how his is setup.

diff oil works its way out through the exhaust port when the lockers are disengaged. It will make a mess inside the cab.
Siclux is suggesting you add a drain so it vents outside the cab

ok makes more sense to me now. and sounds like a good idea. I have decided to put it under the seat and starter setting it up this morning, there is a point i could vent it in the same spot which will work well.

I have had to completelky scrap my plans for the endless air style set up i have. it simply will not fit if i want to keep the aircon, which i do so... looks like a trip to arb for a compressor. just need to decide on which one.

I have a 25L tank which i was going to use in my origional plans. would people still recommend using it?

I see positives and negatives:

positives, when your getting to the end of the day you have 25L at 100psi to speed up pumping of tyres.

negatives, you have to wait for the little compressor to fill the 25L tank to at lest 70 psi before using lockers. i guess you could just turn it on when your air down so its ready all day from them on.

any guesses on how long this would take? the endless system didnt take too long maybe 30 seconds or so.

Plumb the lockers before the tank then put a isolation valve on the tank so you can close it off and don't have to fill the tank if you don't want to.

If it were me I would put it under the bonnet.

Thats where the compressor and locker solenoids live on my lux.

i have taken out my bottle jack and mounted it where the jack sat behind the back seat away from mud/ dust and water (put the jack in one of my many toolbox's) and bought a kit from arb that screws onto the solenoid and have ran the exaust lines through the cab and into my chassy rails

I cant hear it exaust when the engine is running and is very hard to hear unless you are trying to...
